Kelly Frey
Kelly Frey anchors WTAE Channel 4 Action News on weekday mornings and is a general assignment reporter. She has been with the station since 2000.Kelly is a native of West Chester, Pa., and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. She began her career as a reporter with "Hometown News," a cable television program in Monroe, La., then returned to western Pennsylvania after anchoring the morning shows at KTBS in Shreveport, La., and KTVE in El Dorado, Ark.What's the best thing about working at WTAE Channel 4? Kelly says it's the opportunity to meet people while she's out on stories, and the fresh challenge that each day brings.
She remembers her most embarrassing broadcast moment as the time when she brought her dogs, Bailey and Trooper, to the KTBS studio to promote Bring-Your-Animal Night at a Shreveport Captains game. Kelly also has a cat named Nina."The dogs were fine for about 10 seconds," Kelly says, "and then they erupted into fighting and biting each other while we were on the air. After the scuffle, I had to kindly escort them out of the newsroom like two bad kids."Her husband, Jason, is a major in the Air National Guard and serves as a pilot with the 171st Air Refueling Wing, which is stationed at Pittsburgh International Airport.Kelly enjoys dining at Mad Mex, Gullifty's and Monterey Bay Fish Grotto. Some of her favorite activities are working out, skiing, shooting pool and walking her dogs. Kelly also teaches Sunday school at her church.Her favorite movies are "Snatch" and "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," and her favorite book is the Bible.
