POSTED: 6:38 pm EDT May 18, 2008

(Sports Network) - Tamika Whitmore scored 17 points, and the Connecticut Sun overcame 24 turnovers to beat New York, 77-63, at Madison Square Garden.

Asjha Jones and Lindsay Whalen each added 16 points for the Sun, who also got 13 from Jolene Anderson. The Sun, who blew out Atlanta on Saturday in its season opener, went 10-for-23 from three-point range in Sunday's triumph.

Shameka Christon had 14 points to lead the Liberty in their season opener. Tiffany Jackson added 12 points and Janel McCarville tallied 10 in defeat.

Connecticut, which dominated by a 39-22 mark on the boards, didn't trail the entire game. Two Jackson free throws had New York within 57-54 with 7 1/2 minutes remaining, but Whitmore responded with a three-pointer to being a game-sealing 7-0 run.
