POSTED: 7:49 pm EDT May 17, 2008

(Sports Network) - Tamika Whitmore scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Connecticut Sun spoiled the first game in Atlanta Dream history with a 100-68 blowout at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Asjha Jones added 18 points in just 21 minutes for the Sun, who are looking to reach the playoffs for the sixth straight season. Barbara Turner came off the bench with 15 points, while Lindsay Whalen scored 11 -- including a 7-of-8 performance from the free throw line -- and dished out eight assists.

Betty Lennox scored 19 points and grabbed seven boards for the expansion Dream, while Stacey Lovelace finished with 11 points and five assists. But, no other Dream player scored in double figures as Atlanta shot 28-of-71 from the floor and was nearly doubled up on the glass, 53 to 29.

Connecticut pounced early, opening up a 32-21 lead by the end of the first quarter and holding a 17-point edge, 51-34, at intermission.

The Sun opened the second half with an 8-2 run to increase their lead to 23, and while Atlanta pulled within 18 by the end of the frame, Connecticut bounded away with a dominant 28-14 performance in the closing quarter.
