PITTSBURGH -- PennDOT crews will begin using hot mix patching material to fill potholes in Allegheny County on Wednesday. The warm weather and sunny day is giving PennDOT its first opportunity to use the hot mix material after snow from February's winter storms melted and left huge craters around the Pittsburgh area. The work will include a "significant effort" on the ramp from northbound Route 8 to the Highland Park Bridge near the Pittsburgh Zoo, starting at midnight, according to a statement from PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi. While the pothole work is being done, the on-ramp will be closed from midnight until 5 a.m. Thursday. Drivers who want to get to Route 28 will be directed to continue north on Route 8 to the 62nd Street Bridge over the Allegheny River.Potholes on state roads can be reported to PennDOT by calling 800-FIX-ROAD. Potholes in the city of Pittsburgh can be reported by calling 311.Have you seen large potholes? Click here to leave your comments and tell us where the craters are.
