Casinos To Hide $1M In Desert

Contestants Get Trip To Search For Cash

UPDATED: 11:16 a.m. EST February 23, 2004

Don't try this on your own ...

Four Harrah's Las Vegas and four Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino players will soon trade the cozy confines of the casinos for the unforgiving Las Vegas desert, where they will seek a $1 million fortune hidden among the challenging terrain.

To get an entry into the contest, you have to have or sign up for the hotels' players' club cards (called Total Rewards) and accumulate 50 play-based reward credits in one day between March 1 and April 18. Fifty points equals one entry for the drawing.

Winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Harrah's Las Vegas for themselves and a guest. On May 4, the winners will caravan with fellow participants from other Harrah's-operated casinos to the Mojave, where Harrah's has hidden a series of treasure chests.

Armed with a guide, a map and a four-wheel-drive vehicle, the contestants will scour the desert in search of the $1 million prize. One person is guaranteed to find it. Each participant will win at least $400.

This marks the second time Harrah's has executed the Treasure Hunt promotion. In 2001, nearly 400,000 casino players across the country participated.

During Treasure Hunt, Harrah's and Rio are also giving new Total Rewards customers the opportunity to win a variety of prizes, including show tickets, buffet passes and restaurant gift certificates.

Wouldn't winning the Megabucks be a lot easier?
