The 500-ton machine is in the process of creating the $435 million North Shore Connector, which includes twin tunnels under the Allegheny River connecting the North Shore to Downtown Pittsburgh.

Officials said they expected the machine to break through some time between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., but now the breakthrough might not happen until 5 p.m. A new part is being brought in from Ohio.
