Equipment Problems Delays North Shore Connector Work, ClosingsPOSTED: 12:22 pm EDT October 19,
2007 PITTSBURGH -- Due to mechanical problems with equipment, Port authority officials said the closing of the Penn Avenue and Stanwix Street intersection has been postponed indefinitely.The first intersection shutdown as part of the North Shore Connector project was supposed to be on Monday. Officials said whenever the closing happens, it will not interfere with the Nov. 16 Light Up Night activities.The $435 million tunnel project, which will go under the Allegheny River, is expected to open by summer of 2011.
