Your traffic headache in Oakland is about to become a migraine.

A combination of construction projects in close proximity is expected to cause some major traffic jams in the near future.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has begun a two-year, $29 million reconstruction project on the Boulevard of the Allies gateway to eliminate the awkward traffic patterns to and from Forbes and Fifth avenues.

PennDOT will end up replacing the 80-year-old bridge over Forbes Avenue. They said it is so badly deteriorated, it carries only a 9-ton weight limit.

Also under way is a $3 million rehabilitation project on the nearby Birmingham Bridge.

The construction will shift traffic to the southbound side and will close the off-ramp to Forbes Avenue until mid-July.
