POSTED: 3:07 am EDT May 20, 2008

(Sports Network) - The ATP Tour announced on Tuesday that it is moving a tournament within India from Mumbai to Bangalore with the new event starting on September 29.

The original tournament, the Mumbai Open, was to be held from September 15-21.

"We've enjoyed having the tournament in Mumbai the last two years and we would really like to thank the people of Mumbai for their great support of the event," said ATP player Mahesh Bhupathi. When the tournament moved from Ho Chi Minh to Mumbai we had the aim of growing tennis further on the sub-continent and we are happy with the success that we have achieved here in Mumbai. Moving the tournament to Bangalore will give men's tennis another opportunity to spread its wings in India and I am very much looking forward to playing in my home city."

Bangalore, located in southern India, hosted the ATP World Doubles Championships in 2000. The new outdoor Bangalore Open will be played at the 7,000 seat KSLTA Signature Kingfisher Tennis Stadium.
