POSTED: 4:00 pm EDT May 19, 2008

(Sports Network) - Fourth-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta and reigning champion Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain were among Monday's first-round winners at the $175,000 Strasbourg International tennis tournament, a final clay-court tuneup for the French Open.

Pennetta came from behind to beat French wild card Nathalie Dechy 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, while a sixth-seeded Medina Garrigues continued her winning ways here with a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 decision against Czech Klara Zakopalova. Medina Garrigues stunned Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo in last year's Strasbourg finale and also titled here in 2005.

Seventh-seeded Japanese veteran Ai Sugiyama moved on with a 7-5, 7-5 decision against Ukrainian Mariya Koryttseva.

Other opening-round winners on Day 1 were Chinese Shuai Peng, Aussie Casey Dellacqua, Czech Petra Kvitova and France's Stephanie Cohen-Aloro. Peng will face top-seeded French crowd favorite Marion Bartoli, last year's Wimbledon runner-up, in the round of 16 here.
