Govortsova, Craybas Advance In Turkey

(Sports Network) - Fourth-seeded Belarusian Olga Govortsova and seventh-seeded American Jill Craybas were among Monday's first-round winners at the $200,000 Istanbul Cup tennis event, a final clay-court French Open tuneup.

Govortsova grounded Turkish wild card Ipek Senoglu 6-3, 6-2, while Craybas held off Israeli Tzipora Obziler 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

An upset came when Slovenian Andreja Klepac took out fifth-seeded Swede Sofia Arvidsson 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).

American Vania King outlasted Russian Alla Kudryavtseva 6-1, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, while Poland's Marta Domachowska downed New Zealand's Marina Erakovic 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

Additional opening-round wins came for Japan's Aiko Nakamura, Italian Nathalie Vierin and Canadian Stephanie Dubois.

This week's top seed, Russian Elena Dementieva, beat France's Aravane Rezai in last year's Istanbul finale.

The 2008 Istanbul titlist will collect $30,500.
