Pittsburgh Boring Couple's Lawsuit Vs. Google DismissedPhoto Of Home Was Displayed On Google's Street ViewPOSTED: 8:54 am EST February 18,
2009 PITTSBURGH -- A federal judge in Pittsburgh has dismissed a suburban couple's suit against Google Inc. over online photos of their home, which they say violated their privacy.Aaron and Christine Boring were seeking more than $25,000 in damages, alleging that photos of their Franklin Park home on the Web site's "Street View" feature also devalued their property and caused them mental suffering. The Borings live on Oakridge Lane, a long driveway labeled "Private Road," and they claimed Google would have had to have taken pictures from there.Google said there is an easy process on its Web site for homeowners to request removal of images without taking legal action. When the lawsuit was filed in April, a photo of the Boring home was removed from Street View. In its place, a note was posted that said, "This image is no longer available."A picture of the couple's house is still posted on the county's real estate Web site.Street View allows users to find street-level photos by clicking on a map. To gather the photos, Google uses vehicles with mounted digital cameras to take pictures up and down the streets of major metropolitan areas.
