Team 4 Update: No-Contest Plea In Bad Meat Case

American Dispatch In Strip District Was Investigated

POSTED: 4:13 pm EDT June 24, 2009

The president of American Dispatch in Pittsburgh's Strip District pleaded no contest Thursday to a charge of transporting and selling adulterated meat.

Team 4 first revealed the investigation in a story that aired in May 2006.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Shaun Sweeney said the company on 30th Street "knowingly transported and sold 2,814 pounds of meat products which were unhealthy for human consumption" to Groceries Plus More in McDonald, Washington County.

After getting complaints that the meat was bad, company president and CEO Tom Goslin picked it up and had it destroyed. He also refunded the grocer.

Sentencing will be held at a later date by U.S. District Judge David Cercone. Goslin's company could face a maximum of five years of probation and a $10,000 fine.

The Department of Agriculture conducted the investigation.
