Steelers' Jeff Reed, Matt Spaeth In Police Incidents On North ShoreCops Cite Kicker For Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct Outside McFadden's BarPOSTED: 7:37 am EDT October 19,
2009 PITTSBURGH -- Police said Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed was cited for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct outside a bar a couple of blocks from Heinz Field, where the team beat the Cleveland Browns a few hours earlier.Reed declined comment to Channel 4 Action News while he was at Steelers headquarters on Monday afternoon.Lt. David Piasecke, of the city's Zone 1 police station, said two police officers were called to an unrelated incident at McFadden's on North Shore Drive about 9 p.m. Sunday when they saw Steelers tight end Matt Spaeth urinating next to a white sport utility vehicle in a parking lot.Reed got out of that SUV and was told to get back inside, but he did not comply, and he turned toward Sgt. David Krueger with a raised fist, Piasecke said. The officers forcibly handcuffed Reed, who had a strong order of alcohol, Piasecke said.Spaeth, 25, was cited and got a ticket for urinating in public. Police said Reed, 30, will be mailed a summons to appear in city court on his charges.Brandon Morrisey, an assistant manager at McFadden's, told Channel 4 Action News that Reed comes in after every home game and is a great guy and always talkative.Morrisey said he didn't see what happened with Reed, but he didn't notice anything unusual at the bar that night and was surprised to hear the news on Monday morning."He was fine when I left, chatting it up, talking it up. Don't know what happened afterward," Morrisey said.Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett did not comment and said the team is still gathering information about Sunday night's police incidents.Just hours earlier, Reed kicked two field goals in the Steelers' 27-14 victory over Cleveland.Reed joined teammates Monday night to sign footballs for fans at Bid for Hope -- a breast cancer fundraiser for Glimmer of Hope -- where teammates aren't rushing to judgment.Video:
