The Steelers have signed running back/fullback Carey Davis to a one-year contract in hopes of bolstering their offensive backfield.

Davis was released by the Steelers during training camp in favor of rookie running back Frank Summers.

Summers has since been placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the season following what head coach Mike Tomlin has called a "mysterious" back problem.

Rookie tight end/fullback David Johnson also suffered a high ankle sprain during the Steelers' loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Johnson could be out for several weeks.

Davis first signed with the Steelers as a free agent in 2006, going on to play in 30 of 32 regular season games with the team through 2008.

Summers, a fifth-round pick in April's NFL Draft, played in the Steelers' first two regular season games before being inactive on Sunday.
