Myron Cope's radio career took him into homes all over the Pittsburgh area, where many of his friends and colleagues still reside.

WTAE Channel 4 Action News reporter Janelle Hall caught up with some of Cope's associates at WDVE radio on Wednesday and asked them about the death of the longtime Steelers commentator.

"I got on the air, and I was trying to be the professional that we all are supposed to be, and I couldn't," said WDVE disc jockey Michele Michaels. "I almost felt guilty, because I was tearing up like crazy."

"He was the nicest guy," said WDVE disc jockey Sean McDowell. "He was the most approachable guy. During Steelers season, that would be the first call I would listen for in the morning with Jim (Krenn) and Randy (Baumann) -- Myron calling in after the game the day before."

"People were talking about his passing as the end of their youth, the end of an era," said Michaels.

Al McDowell, Sean McDowell's father, worked with Cope at WTAE for years in the 1970s.

"I just remember Myron being such a gracious guy, no matter where I saw him," said McDowell.

"Today is Myron Cope Day in Pittsburgh," said Michaels. "You know what? I don't think it has to be said. What a legend, and what a kind man."
