Chris Glorioso joined the Channel 4 Action News team as a reporter in September 2001, two weeks after the hijacked planes of Sept. 11 changed the landscape of television news.
That shocking moment in history stoked Chris' passion for provocative journalism.
"I think out of that tragic event emerged a renewed responsibility among news reporters, not only to explain the world forces that drive terrorism but also to engage viewers with those local issues that connect them to the world," he says. "It's never been more important to question and demand responsiveness from those who lead and protect our communities."Since his arrival in Pittsburgh, this Emmy-nominated reporter has quickly become known for both a creative approach to complex stories and an aggressive pursuit of answers. His story on .50-caliber rifles and the threat they pose to Pittsburgh International Airport forced the Transportation Security Administration to consider installing cameras on airport fence lines. He descended into a coal mine to give viewers a truer understanding of conditions facing the nine trapped Quecreek miners who won America's hearts in 2002.Glorioso, a native of Annapolis, Md., started his TV career as a reporter and weekend anchor for WPTZ in Plattsburgh, N.Y. While there, he won Associated Press awards for Excellence of Individual Reporting and Best Series for "Sex, Teens, and Disease," a revealing look at the underbelly of sexually transmitted diseases in rural high schools. His first broadcast experience came while he was still in college. In his senior year, he landed a radio job as an afternoon drive anchor and reporter at WSYR-AM in Syracuse, N.Y.Glorioso graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University with the school's prestigious "University Scholar" honor. He has degrees in both broadcast journalism and political science. He spent one of his college years studying political philosophy at Oxford University in Great Britain, where his enthusiasm for world travel was first sparked."I'm addicted to travel," Glorioso says. "I love international current events, and I love asking foreign peoples what they think of the events that captivate U.S. audiences."Russia, Iceland, Cuba, Hungary, Czech Republic, Italy, and Spain are a few of the nations Glorioso has visited.Chris lives in Pittsburgh.
