My View: A View Out Of This WorldPOSTED: 6:38 am EDT May 9,
2005 I saw the rings of Saturn tonight. And Saturn's giant moon, Titan. And Jupiter. And five of its moons. As I squinted through one eye into the telescope of my neighbor and friend Jake, I thought deep thoughts to myself. How amazingly vast and complex the universe is. How small we are in its vastness. How impossibly lucky we are to have this earth provide for us.Looking through that telescope I realized how rare a sight it was I was viewing. Why, I thought to myself... I hadn't seen a sight so spellbindingly out of this world since... since... well, since Team 4's Jim Parsons caught various PennDOT workers not working so blatantly they appeared to be unemployed interlopers from another galaxy. Or perhaps as if they were from some strange land on this planet where the definition of "work" is drastically different than it is in this land of Steel. But then I thought, no, in fact, I really hadn't seen anything as outrageously mind-blowing as the rings of Saturn since the day after Parson's report. That's when PennDOT officials thanked WTAE for providing such a wonderful public service by airing that original story. Without it, they wouldn't have been able to discover that some of their workers appeared not to be working. They reprimanded those seen in our report and set up a special 800 Tip Line so workers who actually want to work can phone in tips on those who don't.Yes, the universe is a strange and wondrous place. If you want to see just how wondrous and amazing it is, just click here: Team 4: PennDOT Whistleblower's Stunning Claims | Team 4 Follow-Up: PennDOT WhistleblowerIt's almost as much fun as squinting through a telescope at the heavens above.Almost.
