My View: Valentine's DayBy News Director Bob LongoPOSTED: 8:30 am EST February 14,
2005 What a long, strange trip '05 has been. So, while the world spun wildly and I hung on, I thought my last tome about Iraq would feel fine in this space for awhile. Now that the election is over, there is no doubt everything will be fine in no time at all......so, I thought. Oh, sorry, that's a dream I had the other night, not the nightmare we read about and watch unfold every day. Let's just say it's time for a new column and leave it at that. This is probably not an award winner, though, just a little ditty about love.Valentine's Day. Love. It's enough to bring a guy out of a month-long stupor. It’s enough to get the blood going, the thoughts burning and the words flying off my fingertips. It's a day dedicated to making the one we love, or the ones we love, feel special. We do nice things, say nice things. Special moments fill the day. Regardless of whether we own FTD stock, our hearts are going to be filled with warm thoughts and emotions. And that's nice, isn't it? Don't you like the flowers? The candy? The diamonds? The poems and playful notions? Whether you're giving or receiving, you have to admit, it is nice. And then the day ends, a new dawn breaks and we're back at our old games again. What's up with that? Why do we take the time to dedicate a day to something so important and then let the messages and emotions of that day slip away into the night?Wouldn't it be better to treat every day like Valentine's Day? Imagine, each and every day filled with kind gestures, gentle words and loving embraces. Sounds nice, doesn't it?So, why not go out and get it started? Just because there isn't a card or commercial telling you it is OK doesn't mean it isn't OK. In fact, I think it may be just what we all need.Replace the anger, frustration, intolerance and negative emotions with happiness, thoughtfulness, playfulness and positive naughtiness.Start with Monday and see what you can do to let the mood slide into Tuesday....and Wednesday....and Thursday.....and on and on and on.Have fun.
