My View: I'm Not Daydreaming, I'm Hard At WorkBy News Director Bob LongoPOSTED: 7:38 pm EST November 5,
2004 As I told many an Elementary and High School teacher years ago, I may look like I'm daydreaming, but my mind is hard at work. I offer as proof:Things that make me go "ugh!"Tributes to Yaser Arafat. I'm old enough and politically incorrect enough to remember when Arafat was simply called a thug or terrorist and not afraid to remind people. No offense to the Palestinian people or their need to have a place to call home. I'm all for that, but Arafat has stood in the way of peace for years and is personally responsible for countless deaths. His hands are forever stained red with the blood of others and there are plenty of people around the globe that feel the sooner he and any "legacy" he may have is buried in the Middle east dust, the better for us all.Pundits who are already skewering the second Bush administration for taking the country to the dark right. First, there is still plenty to rightfully skewer the first Bush administration for, lets not get ahead of ourselves. Second, doesn't he at least get a chance to act on his promise to unify?Exit Polls. I feel so included and privileged when I get the information, like a kid who got to peek inside the Christmas gifts under the tree. Later, I feel like the jilted bride, left at the altar by a man she never really knew.People who declare a liberal media bias. With 20 years in the business, I think I am qualified to say "everyone has a bias" and these days in newsrooms I see, there is more conservative, right-wing bias than liberal, left-wing bias. Having said that, with all that bias, I see a mostly fair media landscape.Things that make me go "hmmm."Yes, more people voted for "W" this past Tuesday than for any other president in history. Equally true, more people voted for John Kerry than for any other president in American History....except for George W. Bush in 2004.Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Republican leaders in the House, Senate and White House should keep that in mind and study history. Can Michael Moore make a movie about me? I don't care how bad it makes me seem to viewers. I mean, look what his last movie did for its subject. Maybe the democrats will hire him in 2008 to do a movie skewering their own candidate instead of their opponent. How does an F-16 Fighter jet, on a nighttime training mission over New Jersey fire 25 rounds of ammunition into a school? Some of the ammo that hit the roof were 2-inch long bullets. Luckily the school was closed and no one was hurt. Copyright 2004 by ThePittsburghChannel. All rights reserved.
