Group Pushes Plan Online

Fifth And Forbes Proponents Set Net Petition

UPDATED: 9:56 a.m. EST March 29, 2000

A group favoring the Fifth and Forbes renovation proposal has taken its movement to the Web.

The Web site, www.marketplacepetition.com, offers an opportunity for those favoring the plan to sign an online petition.

The organization, called the Pittsburgh Marketplace Group, will send the petition to Pittsburgh City Council.

The Downtown Collaborative task force last week heard from architects and other planners regarding Mayor Tom Murphy's proposed Market Place at Fifth and Forbes project.

Eight of nine members of city council said they would oppose the $480.5 million plan that Murphy wants.

Opponents of the plan favor a more traditional downtown appearance. Those in the middle are seeking a meshing of the two looks.
