Ellen Gamble

Ellen Gamble keeps a close eye on traffic and construction, bringing the latest updates to Channel 4 Action News viewers during the weekday morning broadcasts.

Ellen also contributes general assignment stories to the 5 and 6 p.m. shows and is a weekday and weekend morning fill-in anchor.

"No matter whether I'm covering traffic, construction or news," Gamble said, "I love that my job gives me the opportunity to tell a different story each day."

The York, Pa., native has lived in Pittsburgh for 16 years and has a degree in journalism from Point Park University. Before coming to WTAE, Ellen worked at several Pittsburgh radio stations.

Her hobbies include reading, fixing up her "new" old house, and spending time with her boyfriend, friends and family and her Collie-Golden Retriever mix, Kaela (pictured, left), who loves to play in the snow!

Ellen loves to cook and bake, but when she's not making dinner, she loves to dine out at Girasole in Shadyside, Bruschetta's on the South Side or Mad Mex.

Ellen also enjoys working out and volunteering for the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh, where she serves on the Board of Directors.

Here's a recipe Ellen wanted to share with viewers:

"I adored my late grandmother, who was a great cook and baker. She made wonderful cookies, bread and cakes. She'd bake each family member his or her favorite cake for birthdays. This dark chocolate one was mine. Enjoy!"

Della's Dark Chocolate Cake

2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup cocoa
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup milk
1 cup brewed black coffee
1/2 cup cooking oil
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla

Sift all dry ingredients together in large bowl. Add eggs and liquids. Stir until smooth. (Batter will be thin). Best if mixed by hand. Pour into a greased and well-floured pan of your choice. (Ellen's grandmother usually used two round 9-inch pans and made a two-layer cake.) Bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Decorate with icing of your choice. (White or peanut butter icings are family favorites!)
