WTAE-TV's Signals Discontinued on Jefferson County Cable, Blue Devil Cable SystemsPOSTED: 2:52 pm EDT March 13,
2009 PITTSBURGH -- The television signal of Station WTAE-TV is no longer being carried on cable television systems operated by Jefferson County Cable and Blue Devil Cable, which are companies under the same management. The removal of the station's signals from the Jefferson County and Blue Devil cable systems is the result of unsuccessful negotiations between representatives of the Station and the operator of the two cable companies.WTAE-TV has been actively seeking to renew its longstanding contracts with Jefferson County Cable and Blue Devil Cable to allow for continued carriage of the Station. WTAE-TV has successfully come to terms with numerous other cable operators, and hopes to reach a similar agreement with the operator of Jefferson County Cable and Blue Devil Cable. The Station is seeking fair and reasonable terms in connection with the fees Jefferson County Cable and Blue Devil Cable are charging subscribers for receipt of the Station’s signals. The compensation WTAE-TV is requesting is but a small fraction of the fee the Jefferson County Cable and Blue Devil Cable charge subscribers and is below what cable companies pay for other, less popular programming.Jefferson County Cable and Blue Devil Cable subscribers can continue to receive WTAE-TV's analog and digital signals over-the-air at no charge or from DIRECTV and the DISH Network satellite carriers."We remain hopeful that our negotiations may soon be resolved," said Rick Henry, WTAE-TV's President and General Manager. You may wish to express your interest in receiving WTAE-TV and its popular local news and ABC Network programming by contacting Jefferson County Cable and Blue Devil Cable. |
