Nearly 35,000 people began their Mother's Day supporting the fight against breast cancer at the 16th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday.

The event, a 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) run/walk and a one-mile fast walk, was held at Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park.

Prior to the race, a parade and tribute was held to honor nearly 3,000 breast cancer survivors in attendance and to remember those who have lost their battle.

Pink quilts were also made to recognize those continuing their fight.

The day's festivities also featured the world's largest lasagna (35 feet x 35 feet).

The 5k event has raised more than $19 million in the fight against breast cancer.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was founded by Nancy Brinker, in memory of her sister, Suzy, who died of breast cancer at 36.
