Whitney Drolen
Reporter Whitney Drolen joined the WTAE-TV news team in March 2002.
Whitney is happy to now call the east coast her home. She grew up in Ventura, Calif., and earned a Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Chapman University in Orange County, Calif.
Originally, Whitney had plans of a career in acting. After appearing in Finesse commercials and a few TV shows, she decided news was what she really wanted to pursue. She paid her way through college by winning $16,000 on the game show "Hollywood Squares."
Although not a mountain climber, Whitney said she's fascinated with anything to do with Mt. Everest. "I think it's amazing what people put themselves through to reach the summit." One of her favorite books is "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer, which is based on the author's summit ascent of the mountain.
In addition to reading, Whitney enjoys listening to the Dave Matthews Band and loves animals. She said one of her proudest moments occurred when she started a segment called "Whitney's Pet Pals" while she was anchoring the morning show at a West Virginia station. The effort led to the adoption of hundreds of homeless animals.
Her favorite movies include "My Life," "Mr. Holland's Opus" and "Life Is Beautiful."
