In accordance with an ordinance passed by Pittsburgh City Council, there will be a temporary safety zone in effect from July 7 at midnight until 6 a.m. on July 12.

Safety Zone: Map 1 | Map2

The zone stretches from LaCock Street to the Allegheny River, including the Roberto Clemente Bridge; and from Tony Dorsett Drive to Sandusky Street.

This area will be closed to general vehicular traffic.

The boundaries for the safety zone around the David L. Lawrence Convention Center are from Ninth Street to Eleventh Street and from the Allegheny River to Penn Avenue. This area will be closed to general vehicular traffic from 6 a.m. on July 7 until 6 a.m. on July 12. Pedestrians are allowed.

Limited vehicular traffic for deliveries and access to parking facilities will be allowed inside the safety zones. All vehicles entering the safety zones must go through a security checkpoint at 21st and Smallman streets or on Art Rooney Drive. All motorists entering the safety zone must consent to a search.

Law enforcement officers will be posted at all major intersections and the city's tow pound will expand its hours of operation from 7 am. to 11 p.m. July 7 through July 11.

The taxi stand normally located near the Springhill Suites at the corner of General Robinson and Federal streets will be moved to South Commons and Federal Streets. A handicapped dropoff and pickup area will be at Isabella and Sandusky streets and at Tenth Street and French Way.

Port Authority will also enhance existing service and provide special bus and rail service for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 11, and associated activities beginning July 7.

Customers seeking service information are asked to refer to yellow "Way To Go Pittsburgh All-Star Game" pamphlets available on Port Authority vehicles at all major schedule rack locations and at Port Authority’s Downtown Service Center.

Fifteen Port Authority bus routes serve the stop on Sandusky Street at Isabella Street, just one block east of PNC Park.

Those routes are 1A New Kensington, 1B Saxonburg Boulevard, 1C Middle Road, 1D Mt. Royal, 1F Millvale, 6A Troy Hill, 6C Spring Garden, 6D Spring Looper, 11A McKnight, 12A North Hills Shopper, 16A Ohio River Boulevard, 16B Brighton, 16F City View, 17B Avalon-Shadeland and 500 Highland Park-Bellevue.

To help facilitate traffic movement from downtown Pittsburgh on Monday and Tuesday, July 10-11, Port Authority will waive its HOV-2 restriction on the Wabash HOV facility and open it to all automobile traffic in the outbound direction beginning at 1 p.m. both days.

The facility will close to inbound HOV-2 traffic at noon, two hours earlier than normal, on both days to accommodate the change.
