  • Your Steelers Poems: Ode To Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH -- Do you have a written tribute to the black-and-gold? Share it with other fans, right here on this page!

E-mail us at webstaff@thepittsburghchannel.com, and we'll post your poems here.

    Happy Birthday Ben

The whole town thinks you're special Ben,
    For winning number six.
And if I had to choose a hero,
You'd sure be the guy I'd pick.
It's too bad you're from Ohio,
But I guess we can live with that.
Cause we sure love the way you play,
    And brother that's a fact.
    Now it comes to birthdays,
    Today you turn twenty seven.
Heres hopin GOD keep smiling down,
On you from up in heaven.
Cause you now won two super bowls,
    But Bradshaw, he's won four.
And all your fans would love to see
    You even up the score.

    BLOOD, SWEAT, & CHEERS
-an emotional replay of Super Bowl XLIII as experienced by
    Lynn “Ace” Otto, Springs, PA
    February 3, 2009

    It’s February first, down in Raymond James;
The week has been quiet, no callin’ of names.
The Arizona Cardinals, underdogs from the west
Are playing the Steelers, considered the best.

The coin is tossed, time for “game on”,
Players try to focus, hoping jitters are gone.
This game is played on the world’s biggest stage,
In the end, you’re a loser, or you’re on the front page.

The first quarter’s dominated by the MEN OF STEEL,
But during the second, I get a bad feel.
These “Birds” aren’t going down without a fight,
The score 10-7, my stomach is tight.

Now only a few seconds of first half remain,
The Cardinals are drivin’, STEELER NATION’S in pain.
Can our “D” rise up, and keep ‘em to a “3”,
I’m prayin’ in earnest upon bended knee.

Warner drops back, the ball’s out like a dart.
I slump, thinkin’ “6”, this is hard on my heart.
Then outta nowhere, comes Steeler 92,
He’s stolen the ball and knows what to do.

Down the sideline with the rest of the cast,
Rumblin’ and stumblin’, will his legs last?
The yards keep adding up, 100 in all.
He falls over the goal line still clutching the ball.

I’ve just been witness to a miracle of sorts.
I’m so darned excited, I dampen my shorts.
An “Immaculate Interception” has just taken place.
My blood pressure’s sky hight, my heart’s in a race.

    We’re up at the half, the score’s 17 to 7;
I think we got a gift from “football heaven”.
I’m feelin’ better now, my pulse fairly steady,
A sandwich in my belly, for the second half I’m ready.

In the third quarter we kick another “3”,
I was hoping for “7”, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Early in the fourth, leading 20 to 7,
So far not much damage from their number 11.

    During the fourth is when things get dicey;
My blood runs cold, my veins are icy.
    The Cards storm back and now they lead;
A Roethlisberger comeback is what we need.

With 2:37 remaining to be played
An offensive plan on the sideline is made.
Plenty of time for Big Ben and his crew,
Question is, “who should he throw it to?”

It seems to be Holmes’ moment to shine
As he and Ben hook up time after time.
Down the field they go like a well-oiled machine,
Gaining chunks of yardage, tearing up the green.

With the ball on the six, we throw it into the ‘zone.
The pass, through the fingers; I respond with a moan.
I’m pacing the floor and chewing my nails,
Don’t know what I’ll do if the next attempt fails.

We line up again, with Holmes on the right.
I’m hyperventilating, my chest is tight.
I see the pass coming out, again it is high,
I’m tempted to curse, but then “OH MY”!

From back in the corner two hands arose,
I see three Cardinals, but “whose hands are those?”
It’s Holmes again, he’s behind their three,
He’s s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out TALL, to catch the TD.

He looked like Stallworth, with the grace of Swann,
He imitated Fitzgerald, I could go on and on.
Replay after replay, it came out the same,
A spectacular effort to win the game.

The Steelers once again have passed the test.
In “Six-Burgh” this year’s Lombardi will rest.
Next year who knows what lies in store?
With this season now over, I’m thinkin’ “FORTY-FOUR”.

T’was the Night ... By DeAnna Lindauer

T’was the night before the Super Bowl and all through the sand
Cardinals fans were outnumbered by Pittsburgh Steelers fans
All around town fans drank beers and cheered
In hopes that a sixth Lombardi trophy, soon would be theirs
Fans flew in from all over the country
It was almost the first of February, which meant it was Super Bowl Sunday
    Fans filed into Buccaneer Stadium
The atmosphere truly was insanium in the cranium
The anthem was sung, the game was begun
Here it goes, who will come out on top as number one
Steelers lost the toss, but have no fear
Here comes Troy, the man with the hair
Warner threw the ball to the dude sporting double ones
Here comes Woodley, OH SNAP! he killed him with his guns
After a forty yard punt, the ball was the Steelers
Here comes Santonio, running like out of control eighteen wheelers
The offense took to the field, they scored pretty quick
Coach Whiz stood on the sideline looking very sick
Coach Tomlin congratulated his players for a job well done
Here we go Steelers, the six pack was won
Coach Tomlin was drenched in a Gatorade bath
Some Steelers fans cried, and some Steelers fans laughed
The Steelers took the trophy on the fifty yard line
Coach Tomlin just looked on, it was his time to shine
Here’s to you all he said, I love you guys once again
Now here’s the game MVP, his name is Big Ben

‘Twas the night before the Super Bowl, when along the gulf shore,
Steelers fans were praying for “just one more;”

The players were nestled all snug in the sack,
    With visions of the first NFL Six-Pack;

Coach Tomlin was young, but wise for his years,
    So I drifted off to sleep without any fears;

When at the stadium there arose some strange chatter,
    The Cardinals feared, what was the matter;

We heard “Okel Dokel”, we heard “Double Yoi,”
    We jumped from our beds, our hearts jumped for joy;

He stood at the fifty with a grin ear to ear,
    Steelers fans everywhere started to cheer;

Then in an instant to our surprise,
    This little old man had tears in his eyes;

He went to the booth and there took his chair,
    While Terrible Towels waved in the air;

Then over the airwaves came his shrill voice,
    The Steelers Nation began to rejoice;

He said, “I am back, but you know I can’t stay,
    I just had to see my Steelers play;

From my home up above, I have a great view,
    But I wanted to celebrate here with you;

So bring on the Birds, we’ll send them a flyin’,
    On the way back to Phoenix, they will be cryin’;

Ben, Hines, Troy, Jeff and all of the rest,
No matter the outcome, to me you’re the best;”

The airwaves went silent, the stadium still,
    Was this just a dream, it seemed so real;

In our team we have faith, in our team we have hope,
    But the game’s not the same without Myron Cope;

    - A.K. Young

Twas the night before the Super Bowl,
    And all through Steeler nation,
Not a Stiller fan was sleeping,
Just waiting for the Big One with anticipation.
Fans anxiously awaiting kickoff of the game,
Enjoying the Steeler honor, glory, and fame.
We can make history by winning our sixth Super Bowl, even though the Cards coaches (the former from the Burgh) know all of our tricks so this game requires so much concentration,
We pray for a victory without hesitation.
The players are snoozin’ in a Tampa hotel,
Dreaming of keeping the Cardinals ringless and winning their sixth Super Bowl as well.
    Lebeau lies in a slumber,
Dreaming of defensive strategies to make the Cardinals day a bummer.
Ward, Holmes, and Washington lie staring at their door,
Wondering just how many touchdowns they will score.
The #1 defense is tossing and turning all over,
Just hoping for lots of Cardinal turnovers.
Polamalu just can’t stay in one place,
He just wants interceptions and in Kurt Warner’s face.
Big Ben dreams of being the game MVP,
He just better complete passes and score a few TD’s.
Miller dreams of his spot in the corner of the endzone,
The defense so confused he’d catch that TD all alone.
Reed is up pacing, practicing field goal kicks,
He knows a field goal could win the game as he listens to the clock continue to tick.
Fast Willie is up running routes in the hall,
Hopefully he can get past the Cardinal defensive wall.
Tomlin and crew put the finishing touches on the game plan,
It’s only his second season and he’s done the best he can.
Super Bowl morning is finally here,
Steeler fans are crazy and saying a Steeler cheer.
The black and gold frenzy is even crazier now,
Just look around at the waving Terrible Towel.
We’re the city of Pittsburgh, and we love our Steelers team,
Time to cheer for our guys so let me hear you scream:
Come on Steelers get that sixth Lombardi Trophy!

Superbowl 'stache back out to Hopewell and back.

Here's the bottom line middle distance Picksburgh:
This team is within your tributary system like these rivers and in the prime of your existence, the torch not only flickers it's as liquid as the clotted hot lava that bolts our bridges.
Ben is our Bradshaw - Santonio's Swann.
Hines is an industry pushing us on.

There's a photo in my mother's top closet heart of her five year-old firstborn's birthday party whose attendees were clam-skin and mono swollen glands, son rockin' a #12 home jersey with a plastic helmet on the cake.

    One fake Louis Lipps jersey
and a Hill's autograph meeting in the books.
Terry told us Brister for Blackenridge was apples for apples and we needed an orange Stoudt's seasons stunk like a Big Beaver trout while my dad heart-pounded couch yelling calling everybody out, just like he does now son in the basement singing "Lipps and Stall... are gonna catch that ball"

My mentor in progressive thought (Gary) gave me a bleach-spotted terrible towel that he found in the basement of his new West Mifflin house which did me well through 40 and 43
(sidenote: isn't it nice that we can always remember 43
    as Troy and hometown Destiny
instead of the previous fumbling regime puppetry!?)

and when Sixburgh police flexed aggressive on Butler, I laid it on the street as a martyr peace offering that quickly resulted in a hand around the collar and a threat to be arrested just after they intimidated Ed, moments before my cousin Chad visiting from Virginia who sees me sporting a Grandma-knit Steeler hat Christmas gift waves, triumphantly yelling our Surname below his friends, who are suspended through our grandfathers' foundation.
One younger pig grunts "nice towel"
while another makes it a squad car grill drape and some confined street people cheer.

Yo Myron - I got a new hanky
it got our one for the thumb plus one
silkscreen stuck around the phrasing of your permanent place in this.
Today, hipster-hosted victory parade photos went local Web 2.0 viral and a freshman at Steel Valley High School read the "Night Before Christmas" poem A.K. Young wrote in lieu of my asking him to bring in his favorite lyrics to class.

The Superbowl game is one of sports biggest stages
This years viewers were treated to a game of the ages
Steelers winning tradition vs. the Cardinals Cinderella story
Tomlin vs. Whisenhunt - each looking for Superbowl glory
Cardinals would have an advantage is a point many people made
We’d have to find out after 60 minutes was played
So the Steelers went on offense because the Cardinals deferred
It was finally time to go after our final bird
It started off good but because of Ben’s knee
Right or wrong we were held to only three
It went back and forth until the half’s last play
When James Harrison picked it off and ran the other way
A record breaking 100 yard return from coast to coast
In hindsight this might have been the play that hurt them most
The 3rd quarter would go by with us still in the lead
But we’d have to save our energy - there would soon be a need
The 4th quarter would get better and the game was already good
Fitzgerald was going to break one - we all knew he would
One touchdown was scored and I was nervous no lie
Then the go ahead touchdown later and I had to cry
That didn’t last long because I had all the faith in Ben
He’s made so many comebacks I knew he could do it again
Just as he’s done so many times before
He marched the guys down the field and into position to score
Our #1 defense brought us here and deserves a world of credit
But our offense deserves some too and after this game they’ll get it
Santonio saved the day with his perfect toe tapper
As the time ticked down this would be the game capper
Kurt Warner would soon fumble - was it really reviewed?
Leaving the tainted victory debate to be renewed
Steelers won this game fair and square
And Cardinals you accomplished a lot just by getting there
No that’s not right it was so much more
You gave us a great game - of that I’m sure
Back to our guys - for they are the reason
There’s so many great memories from such an awesome season
Six rings for our Steelers - they’re at the top of the charts
They had a tough schedule and still broke a lot of hearts
So twice in five years I’ve gotten to write Superbowl victory poems
The Lombardi is back in Pittsburgh again - Holmes Sweet Holmes

Here's a poem I wrote for the Steelers:

James Harrison, defensive player of the year

A man who quarterbacks dread and fear

So, of course, it is no mystery

James Harrison will go down in history

An interception at the goal line returned a 100 yards

Waving bye, bye as he rolls over the Cards

He made Superbowl history, a moment of great fame

In to the NFL book of history, he has engraved his name

But, the Steeler defense did not do this alone

Our offense had some glory of their own

Down by three and just over two minutes to go

Ben called the offense together and said it's time for a show

Ben lead the offense down the field 78 yards in eight plays

Saying Forget the field goal, we're taking this all the way

To win the Superbowl, you have to be 60 minutes men

We're the Steelers, we're going to see this through to the end

Santonio Holmes goes to the end zone and waits for the pass

Determined to win the Superbowl and put the Steelers alone in a class

Ben throws the ball and with both feet down, Holmes brings it in

The MVP, Holmes delivers to Steeler Nation it's 6th SUPERBOWL WIN!

    Steelers

    Pittsburgh is Super Bowl bound
They will beat the Cardinals to the ground
    They will win their sixth
    and leave the Cardinals ringless
Steelers are the black and gold
    They are strong and bold
The Terrible Towel will wave and the people will cheer
We will bring the Super Bowl trophy to Pittsburgh this year
    Let's go Steelers!

    STEELERS

Twas a scolding day in Florida but whos cares because Polamalu was combing his hair.
Pittsburgh is a city of bridges where terrible towels wave.
And our curtain of steel left the rivals hope grave.
Now our faithful players will travel, on south to the sea.
With victory in hand let mercy be the Cardinals plea.
Now across this nation in every city every town.
Our black and gold faithful will be proud as the brand new champions are crowned.
So black and gold it is the time
    Once and for all
    To take our sixth trophy
And watch the mighty Cardinals fall

    Steelers Pledge

I pledge allegiance to the terrible towl of Pittsburgh and to the fans in the stands.
    One Steelers nation under Tomlin.
Undefeatable, with touchdowns, and another superbowl win.

    On the Road to 6-Burgh

    Dedicated to Coach Tomlin

On the shoulders of the Black and Gold
    Emotions sway.
How strong we ride the pendulum
    From play to play.
It's cold, it snows, the skies are gray.
What perfect weather for the guys today.

The game begins, the coin is tossed.
So grab a beer, regret the cost.
The lines are long, my husband's lost.
We long for playoffs, despite the frost.

Halftime comes, our boys are down.
Our breath is held, we look around.
At once we stand, as one we sound.
Send the dawgs back to the pound.

The crowd gets bold, they start to sing.
We lift team spirits, momentum swings.
The closing drive, the final fling,
The pass is caught, there's Rooney's ring!

The Legacy of the Terrible Towel

The Terrible Towel indeed is unique. Though other teams may copy it, their outcome's been bleak. History has shown its powerful force, enabling the Steelers to stay the course.

Desecrated by the Tennessee Titans of late, could it be that the towel helped deal them their fate? Working for Steelers fans through the Ravens' play, in the end it was the Steelers that won the fray.

Now headed to Super Bowl forty-three, the towel's important as it ever could be. When the gold towels are twirled, the Steelers stick to the task, doing whatever it takes to bring victory to pass.

Woven it's said by a wise, lovable bloke, the one and only Myron Cope. His play- by-play this year will be, only broadcast in heaven you see. But to each Steelers fan, like you and like me, he has bequeathed The Terrible Towel's legacy.

He has sealed in each fiber of the towel's black and gold, the spirit of Steelers fans both young and old. It will now be seen by the Cardinals in red, what other opponents have learned to dread.

Spurring both offense and defense to rise to the occasion, and win a sixth ring for the Steeler Nation.

Original Poem by Jack T. Weiser

'Twas a snowy day in Pittsburgh
    And it was freezing cold,
The Ravens tried to beat us,
They thought they were so bold.
But they couldn't beat the Steelers,
    No matter how they tried,
They just couldn't beat our Steelers
    Nor squash our Steeler pride.

    - Darla Bernot, Ford City

    Who Dey?

    Mike Tomlin gathers his class,
As he tells Ben to throw a big pass

    Roethlisberger goes long,
    To Ward where it belongs

Ward takes it in for the touchdown,
And everyone goes crazy in the town

Jeff Reed goes for the extra point,
Now we can beat the Ravens with a big disappoint

Now the offense gets a chance to cool off,
As Reed goes out for the kickoff

The Ravens try to run it back,
But the Steelers were there with a surprise attack

Joe Flacco’s out of the pocket,
And Polamalu goes after him like a rocket

    Flacco’s down on his back,
    Because Polamalu’s got another sack

Second down with twelve yards to go,
As the ball goes to Ray Lewis to say hello

Not long after he caught the pass,
He knows he’s gonna get hit by the upper class

Fourth down and one to go,
Joe Flacco is nothing but slow.

The Steel Curtain comes down, down, down,
Now all the Ravens can’t do anything but frown

On their 43 yard line, they have to punt,
And in the back, Holmes is ready to hunt

    Holmes catches the ball,
And runs it back like he’s a kid in a hall

Down to the Ravens 25 yard he goes,
He stands up and does his pose

First and ten, Ben Gives to Willie,
    Those Ravens think we’re silly

    Willie gets the first down,
And I think he deserves a crown

    On the fifteen yard line,
    Now we’re ready to shine

Two minutes and fifteen seconds to play,
We just want to continue to play

Getting a third chance to beat the Ravens,
Now we don’t have anymore cravins

    The next stop’s Superbowl XLIII,
And all the Ravens can do is cry, cry, cry

Now they really know who dey are,
Because they have a really big scar

    We dey, the Steelers true,
There’s nothing that you can do

    If you ask, “Who dey?”,
We’re gonna stand up and yell in your face

    WE DEY!

    - By Kim Tromm

This is the city of bridges
    Where golden towels wave
    And a curtain of steel
    Leaves the rival's hopes grave

    Now our warriors do travel
    South toward the sea
    With victory at hand
For all others, mercy be their plea

    Across this great nation
In every city and every town
The black and gold faithful will shout

A game of epic proportions for the AFC Crown
It lived up to it’s billing - we were not let down
What’s our name? We’re the Steelers who beat you 3 times this year
Whether we came to Baltimore or you came to play here
You got lucky in Nashville with a last minute score
Then you rooted for us - be careful what you wish for
After so much bounty talk you finally got to 86
But he’ll have the last laugh when he’s in the Superbowl mix
That’s definitely bad but was not the worst
Santonio should have had an early TD but it was reversed
Later Ben connected with Holmes again after shaking off a sack
65 yards later - you can’t have that one back
Sweed dropped a sure touchdown before the half ended
But he took out Corey Ivy and helped our lead to be defended
The refs were awful I don’t deny that at all
Berger could be an actor instead of punting a ball
These were the Ravens we all love to hate
Suddenly on this night they weren’t playing so great
Where was Ed Reed? Did he really even play?
I kept only hearing Troy’s name mentioned on Sunday
Speaking of Troy - that man was everywhere
Like on that 4th and 1 jump and a pile of hair
Just as it looked like a kick was upcoming from Stover
Troy picked it off and their magic carpet ride was over
Troy’s interception meant our victory was sealed
But then we watched McGahee taken on a cart off Heinz Field
Willis, we wish you well and hope you’re okay
Health is more important than any game you play
That’s one bird down and one to go
With the Cinderella team and a coach we all know
We made it to Tampa but we are not finished yet
The last ring for our Six Pack is what we're coming to get

    It's Crying Time For Someone:

    Once again the Steelers face,
Their last game of the season.
All the pain the last six months,
Well, this game is the reason.
Yes every team begins the year,
    With just one single goal.
    To win a conference title,
And make it to the Super Bowl.
Our Steelers blessed by GOD above,
    And the number one defense.
    Find themselves the favorite,
And that makes a lot of sense.
We've still got a while to wait,
But when that game is done,
If the Steelers finish what they start,
It'll be crying time for someone.

    The Bottom Line:

    To all the many faithful,
    Devoted Steeler fans,
    Couch bound every Sunday,
    Or sittings in the stands.
Subjected to the pros and cons,
From all the know it alls.
    That 2nd guess the defense,
    Never happy with the calls.
Well lets just deal with basics,
Make it plain for all to see.
Cause the rules are really simple,
    Just like A B C and D's.
    Throw out all the personalities,
And the sprains or achy joints.
Cause what it boils down to,
Is the team that scores most points.

    Good Ole Pittsburgh

Good Ole Pittsburgh here we come,
Did anyone ever tell you that you're number 1?
You're number 1 in all you do,
The Pittsburgh Steelers will prove that to be true.
Let me say it once again,
The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to win!

    - Denise Kurtz

A Terrible Poem (with apologies to the Underdog cartoons) by Francis Bender

Hail to Thee O mighty Steelers
Better than those Baltimore used car dealers
Polamalu will fill the Ravens with dread
Much to the delight of Sweet Polly Purebred
The Steelers are not underdogs, that we know well
While the Ravens are the Riff Raff of the NFL
The Pittsburgh Steelers will never fail
You can bet your Tennessee Tuxedo and his tail
Simon says the Ravens will go to the Pampas
While the Pittsburgh Steelers will triumphantly march to Tampa
This poem is starting to taking its toll
I guess it's because Pittsburgh is going to the Super Bowl.
    The End

WENT TO BED LAST NIGHT AND STARTED TO DREAM
THINGS HAVE GONE WRONG AND THEY’RE NOT AS THEY SEEM
WOKE UP IN A SWEAT AND STARTED TO SCREAM
PITTSBURGH’S NEW MASCOT’S CALLED “STEELY McBEAM”

I JUMPED OUT OF BED AND TURNED ON THE LIGHT
OUTSIDE THE DARKNESS MEANT IT WAS STILL NIGHT
‘TWAS ONLY A DREAM AND THINGS WERE ALRIGHT
A STEELERS MASCOT, IMAGINE THE SIGHT

TURNED ON THE T.V. TO WATCH THE SPORTS NEWS
LOCAL OR NATIONAL, WHICH SHOULD I CHOOSE
WELL, NOW I’M DEPRESSED AND I’VE GOT THE BLUES
McBEAM’S FOR REAL, I JUST PUKED ON MY SHOES

WITH A BIG SQUARE JAW AND A YELLOW HEAD
HE LOOK’S LIKE HE’S SICK AND SHOULD BE IN BED
ALL OF THE BLACK AND THE GOLD I HAVE BLED
RAN COLD IN MY VEINS, MY HEART STOPPED ... I’M DEAD

    - Lincoln LaBar

Florida oranges, Texas cactus, we played the Ravens, just for practice.

    "Steelers 2008/2009"

April 15th was the fateful release...
And just like you it left me gritting my teeth…

The toughest schedule in the NFL…
There’s no doubt about it…it was sent straight from hell…

We’ve got the usual suspects in the AFC north…
The Brownies the Bengals and the Ravens of course…

Colts and Bolts and Birds that soar high….
Cowboys and Titans and Jaguars OH MY….

Redskins and Texans who have taken their lumps…
Super Bowl champs and even Super Bowl chumps…

    We’ll face three/four and four/three defensive schemes…
With Hartwig as our center we can hold any team…

Lewis & Suggs will blitz from both sides…
Kendall and Chris will shut them down in midstride…

“The Freak” has come full circle he’s back in Tennessee…
Colon will break across the line and bring him to his knees…

They can bring on Vanden Bosch or come at us with Thomas…
    Marvel will clear a path and that’s a promise…

Mendenhall and Davis our “Fighting Illini” pair…
They’ll roll through Jason Taylor like he isn’t even there...

And as “Pacman” is asking for directions to Blush…
Parker will blow by “Adam” for a touchdown rush…

In his attempts to cover Holmes, Harper will try and fail…
On a side note Nick did your wife make bail…

Off the end we can always count on Miller…
Oh thank freaking God Heath is a “Stiller”…

Freeney and Sanders will bring their game…
But Ben will find Ward and put them to shame…

The debate will continue whether we really have a need…
All I have to say is, isn’t life Sweed…

When Batch went down we yelled out in fear…
And until he returns we’re glad Leftwich is here…

Whether we’re looking for three or one for our six…
Reed will come through and nail the kick…

And in the event we are forced to punt…
Berger will find the corner and keep us in the hunt…

We’ll face Peyton and Eli with their assaults from the air…
With Keisel from their blindside they don’t have a prayer…

Casey waddled into camp but he’s trimming down…
It could make the difference when Saturday’s in town…

Aaron is back and he’s firm in his stance…
If Tomlinson goes outside he won’t stand a chance…

Some will run it to Westbrook, others will pass it to Wayne…
Farrior and Foote will shut down their lanes…

    Bring Taylor or T.J. we don’t give a damn…
We’ve got Woodley at “Will” and Harrison at “Sam”…

We’ll witness Romo to T.O. as the ball passes by…
When Ike intercepts you know someone will cry…

Winslow and Gates will be coming to play…
We have a solution and his name is Deshea…

When Palmer goes downfield to his fave eighty-five…
Clark will come up with the catch to eighty-six that drive…

We have Troy in our secondary to knock Welker off his feet...
By the way Bill we got five and didn’t even cheat…

You know what they say about being the best…
This is the year we’ll be put to the test…

We’ll have to deliver at FedEx, cut the mustard in Heinz Field…
Slice through them at “The Razor,” and never ever yield…

We must break “The Vault” and sever the lines at old Alltell
Travel to “The Linc” and ring the closing bell…

We’ll rumble in “The Jungle,” punish them in “The Pound”…
And spin them at “The Album” if we are to be Super Bowl bound…

The blood in our veins it runs black and gold…
And that won’t change even if we’re sold…

All of Steelers Nation let’s stand up and sing…
HERE WE GO STEELERS…let’s bring home that ring…

    Cristy L. Mauro, Murrysville

I stay in the 4-1-2 code,
    reppin' that black n' gold.
    Steelers don't play kid games,
    unlike them other lames.
    I'll always love the 'Burgh,
    'cus we're never third.
    Come to think,
    we're never second best
'cus we put them other teams to rest.
    GO 'LERS

My little pet peeve is when I see fans in the stands for the other NFL teams twirling a towel. The Twirling of the towel has been "The Steelers" trademark forever. So this is a little poem I put together for that reason. The ONLY Towels that should be twirling are the yellow Terrible Towels.

    Rule of "The Twirling Towel"

    To all NON STEELER FANS,
    in the NFL.
    Here is the rule of,
    the "Twirling of The Towel."
    It has always been,
    "OURS" you see.
IF your not for the STEELERS,
    use something else,
    To CHEER for your TEAM!!!!!!

    Denise B. Beaver, PA

LOVE DEM STEELERS WHEN DA STEELERS WERE JUST BABIES,
    BACK DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION.
    ALWAYS GITTIN BEAT A LOT,
WAS A HARD AND BITTER LESSION.
THE GHOSTS OF ALL THEM EARLY GUYS,
    STILL FLOAT AROUND THE CITY.
    LOOKIN FOR THEIR LOST RESPECT,
SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THE PITY.
ALONG COMES NOLL IN SIXTY NINE,
    AND CHANGES THINGS AROUND.
    HE TURNS THIS PERENNIAL LOSER,
INTO THE GREATEST TEAM IN TOWN.
    COHWER KEPT ON WINNING GAMES,
    WHEN HE REPLACED CHUCK NOLL.
AND HE ADDED HIS OWN FOOTNOTE,
WHEN HE WON ANOTHER SUPER BOWL.
    2007'S WHEN MIKE TOMLIN'S HIRED,
TO CARRY ON WITH THIS SUCCESS.
THE FANS NOW USED TO WINNING,
    BELIEVE THEIR TEAM IS BLESSED.
ITS MUCH TO EARLY FOR A GRADE,
BUT MIKE IS STARTIN OFF IN STYLE.
AND I DON'T DARE TO RISK A JINX,
SO I'LL JUST WAIT A LITTLE WHILE.
BUT WE'VE GOT FIVE LOMBARDI TROPHYS,
    NOW SAFELY ON DISPLAY.
AND THE QUICKEST WAY TO #6,
IS LET MIKE TOMLIN HAVE HIS WAY.

    D.E.KENNICK (9-27-07) YATAHEY!

    Willie Parker

    Stretch play to the right
2 or 3 yards to gain
    Willie breaks tackles
    Bye bye Parker
    Another touchdown!

2007/2008 Ode to Our Boys in Black & Gold

It’s that time of year, the season is here, And though the faces have changed We have no reason to fear…

    Steely McBeam, I won’t even address, Let’s just say…what a freaking McMess…

The “Turk” has come, the depth chart defined, We finally know the starting offensive line…

As centers; Dawson and Hartings were some of the best, Now Mahan must prove he can pass the test…

Kendall and Willie will line up right, When the ball is snapped, no doubt they’ll hold tight…

For now we’ve got Faneca; the best guard in the game, Without him our line just won’t be the same…

Marvel covers the blind side and oh the comfort Ben has, Being he knows he won’t get knocked on his ...

Much talk has been made of our offensive scheme, Will we truly become a passing team…

Parker is quick as quick as they come, With Kreider to block there’s no stopping the run…

Najeh is strong and can gain extra ground, No need to worry we’ll convert on third down…

Ward and Holmes are quite the pair, No doubt we are covered if we take to the air…

To sure up the strong side in that there’s no debate… We just put in Miller…damn ain’t he great…

To always get six is tough that we know, So in Reed we trust for three off his toe…

Three and out will leave us like mourners, Unless Sepulveda hits the coffin corners…

Every good offensive brings a huge grin, But it’s great defense you must have to get the big win...

“Tampa 2” many say it’s coming our way, Even if it does, may I just say…

Ask Dungy himself in this there’s no jive, It was born from our Steelers in 1975…

For now we’ll play “D” the way we know best, Smith, Hampton & Keisel putting o-lines to the test…

Haggans, Harrison, Farrior & Foote our linebacking corps… Will pillage their backfield and bring QB’s to the floor…

Taylor & Townsend will jam their receivers, Disrupt their pass routes and make us believers…

Opposing offenses will pass of that there’s no question, Finding Polamalu to their strong side, can you say interception…

Clark will cover if they throw the ball deep, Stripping the ball as he takes a great leap…

Cowher and Bettis that era’s now gone, It’s time to get behind Tomlin and cheer him on…

Cherish the memories and take pride in our past, But let’s look to the future; Super Bowl XL, it wasn’t our last…

So Steelers Nation dawn your Towels and take a stand, Let’s start working on that other hand!

    Cristy L. Mauro

    HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU

THIS WILL MAKE THE FORTH TIME,
THAT I'VE DROPPED YOU GUYS A LINE.
    AND MADE MY FEELINGS OBVIOUS,
BY PUTTING IT DOWN IN RHYME.
IT'S BECAUSE I LOVE THE STEELERS,
AND I KNOW THEY'RE WORKING HARD.
    IN TRAINING AT ST. VINCENT,
THAT'S LIKE BEING IN OUR BACKYARD.
    EVERYBODY CLOSE AT HAND,
CAN DRIVE UP AND CHECK EM' OUT.
GIVE THEM A HEARTY "KICK SOME ASS",
    AS YOU WANDER ALL ABOUT.
IT WON'T BE VERY MUCH LONGER,
THAT THIS CAMPUS WILL BE STILL.
    THE STEELERS MOVE TO KETCHUP-TOWN,
AND THE WEEKENDS GET FOR REAL.
SO LET'S ALL TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY,
AND TELL THE STEELERS OF THE PRIDE.
THAT THEIR FANS ALL FEEL FOR THEM,
    WAY DEEP, DEEP DOWN INSIDE.

    THE BALLAD OF TROY POLAMALU

IT WAS IN THE SPRING OF 2003,
HE WAS TAKEN 16TH ON THE LIST.
    PITTSBURGH SELECTED POLAMALU,
NOW WE ALL KNOW THE REST.
HE MADE THE PRO BOWL LAST TWO YEARS,
WITH HIS FOURTH YEAR COMIN UP.
WE AIN'T SEEN THE LIKES OF HIM,
SINCE OLD SHEP WAS A PUP.
    HE'S SURROUNDED BY YOUNG TALENT,
    THATS WON ONE SUPER BOWL.
    AND ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN,
IF A TEAM GETS ON A ROLL.
HES OUT THERE JUMPIN IN AND OUT,
WITH HIS LONG HAIR BLOWIN FREE.
IF YOUR LOOKIN FOR SOME ACTION,
KEEP YOUR EYE ON FORTY THREE.
    POLAMALU'S GOOD FOR PITTSBURGH,
THE FANS JUMPED UP AND CRIED.
CAUSE HE'S THE BEST SAFETY IN THE LEAGUE,
AND HE'S GOT THE GOOD LORD ON HIS SIDE.

    - D.E.K.

YOU NEVER KNOW ITS IN YOU,
CAUSE YOU STARTED AS A CHILD.
    TO EMULATE YOUR HEROS,
    NOW IT DRIVES YOU WILD.
    HOPALONG OR GENE AUTRY,
    THE PIRATES OR GREEN BAY.
    SOME SEGMENT OF OUR CHILDHOOD,
    JUST NEVER GOES AWAY.
    MY FATHER AND MY BROTHERS,
ALWAYS HEROS IN MY HERO EYE.
    WERE ALWAYS PITTSBURGH STEELER FANS,
    I NEVER QUESTIONED WHY.
WELL, SIXTY YEARS ON DOWN THAT ROAD,
    I SELDOM EVER PANIC.
YET WHAT I FIND I'VE TURNED INTO,
IS ANOTHER BLACK AND GOLD FANATIC.

    - D.E.K. (7-24-07)

    Steelers are black
    And Steelers are gold
    Who are the Pirates?
    A baseball team, I'm told.

    The Penguins can march
    And Riverhounds howl
    But nothing's as sweet
    As a terrible towel.

    We scream and we holler,
    Coach sticks out his chin.
Make room on the other hand
For the next Super Bowl win.

    - Michael Armenini

    Tribute to Jerome

You always dreamed you'd get there; though this season I knew,
To play in the biggest game of all; and play it where you grew.

Your parents going state to state; watching you with pride.
Getting ever closer to your biggest ride.

As your pounded yard by yard, to get your team the score
I knew that you were destined
I knew that there was more.

    I'll watch you Supberbowl Sunday,
My eyes will not be dry,
As you hold the Lombardi Trophy,
    raising it to the sky.

If this be your final season,
    be your final game,
    I'll still watch the Steelers,
but it just won't be the same.

    What a fitting finish,
for the best in the NFL mix,
    The future hall of famer,
my favorite and the greatest #36.

    - Catherine

    so it's asked, what's in a name?
I can tell you that it's destined fame.
Polamalu is so hard to say,
but we're happy he shows up on game day.
where is he now we look to see....
    I call him VISA ....
he's everywhere you need him to be!

    - P.J.

    10 years have gone by
and we are here once again.
    Super Bowl XL and our
    trust in Big Ben.

    If it's Fast Willie or
    the Bus in the back.
    Sea Hawks defense won't
    know what their looking at.

When Big Ben drops back to
    make a throw.
    You know whether it's Miller,
    El, Wilson, or Hines.
They will be already on the go.

    With Porter, Foote, and Hope
sackin'. We will see Hasselbeck poutin'.

What about the guys down to cover,
oh that will be a sight.
    They are Deshea, McFadden, and
    Ike.

We all know him by his hair and
him flyin, he got the name Flyin' Hawian.
Sea Hawks better watch out, they will be fooled.
    By the one called Polamalu.

We will show the Nation and all the
    non-believers.
That the best in football, are
    the Steelers.

We will ride the Bus into Detroit, and
    have some fun.
Bring back the trophy, and the
    one for the Thumb.

    - GSpencer740

    A Decade in Waiting

    O'Donnell, Morris, Woodson, Lake, and more;
Distant memories from Steelers Super Bowl lore.
Super Bowl XXX failed to get us one for the thumb,
That stinging loss left Steelers Nation very numb.

    It's ten years later, a decade of wait;
Getting that fifth has been so hard to create.
Since '95 we knocked three times on that door,
Only to have Denver and New England slam us to the floor.

Four out of five AFC title losses hit Bill in the face,
A championship test was something he could not ace.
So in 2004 15-1 rode the day,
But there was New England standing in the way.

The Pats bounced us and another Super Bowl they would win,
On to next year we all said without much of a grin.
The Bus said let me do this one more time,
Because retiring without a ring would be a crime.

2005-2006 has been a roller coaster ride,
Up and down the NFL rankings was a continual slide.
On the season's final day the playoffs we did make,
But we had to win them all on the road without a mistake.

A sixth seed has never made it to what they call the BIG DANCE,
The Steelers beat the Bengals but beating the Colts...fat chance.
That's what they all said, it could not be done,
But our boys in Black and Gold were on an incredible run.

In Indy the refs tried to take one from us,
And then there was that nightmare fumble by the Bus.
But Vander-Choke missed a kick that would have tied the game,
From this point on nothing would be the same.

All eyes were on Detroit except on the field,
The Steelers focused on Denver and did not yield.
With Art Rooney Sr. looking down from heaven above,
His spirit was felt as was his love.

Three straight road games the Steelers did win,
I'm going home said the Bus with a grin.
One for the thumb is the battle cry,
Steelers Nation will rule on the 5th and that's no lie.

    - Harvey "Mr. Steeler" Aronson

    The Road to The Superbowl

    The road to the Superbowl
    had a few pot holes.
But the team did not crumble
    despite Jerome's fumble.

    The defense was strong
    and the passes were long.
    Ben threw to Hines Ward
    and fast Willie scored.

    Polamalu was soaring
    and opponents stopped scoring.
    The chin was a grinning
    'cause we kept on winning.

The Steelers Nation, black and gold
    came together, young and old.
Art won four and Dan has none,
let's go to Detroit and win one for the thumb.

    The towels will be wavin'
    and Ben will be shavin'.
    They'll bring home Lombardi
    so we can all party!

    - Jim B.

SUPERBOWL XL: THE LEGEND OF THE TERRIBLE TOWEL

Steeler fans are indeed set apart, for the enthusiasm that they impart From memories of a long ago team, now resurrected in a brand new breed

There were Blount and Bleier; Greene, Lambert and Ham; and Bradshaw and Harris to carry it on.

Now there’s Big Ben and Ward; Parker and Bus; and Miller and Randel El, to provide thrills for us

The defense squad, tough as nails it is certain has proven its metal like the old steel curtain

The date has been set and the show will go on, the Steelers and Seahawks to Detroit have all gone

So to help the Steelers in their quest for the gold, just wave the terrible towel of old, Woven it’s said by a kind old bloke, the one and only Myron Cope

He has sealed in each fiber of the towel’s terrible thread, the magic that leaves the Hawk’s offense dead!

    -- Jack T. Weiser

Bettis, the bus, what more is there to say
He shoves through the pack somehow, some way

Many, many games with his parents in the stand
Now they're all headed to Jerome's homeland

The bus has been running and playing for years
His trip to the Superbowl is finally here

To all the team, Good Luck and better yet
Make this the year Pittsburgh will never forget

    -Emily S.

'Twas the week of the Super Bowl,
    And all thru this town

    No team will be playing
    Of corse not dem Browns

    The Browns were at home
    By the chimney …so lame

While them steelers are in D-town
    Getting ready for the GAME

When out on the lawn I heard such a clatter
Steeler fan making fun of the Browns …..Loaded with Laughter

"Kicking your ass, is so not much fun!!!!!!"
    "You don't even score…..We post 41???!!!!!!"

"Rivalry my ass, Cleveland just stinks.
Take off that orange. Younz might as well wear pink.

We crushed them Bengal's with speed and agility
Them the colts can't believe Big Bens Ability

We went to mile high, where they say younz can't win.
We punched them in the mouth, the head, and Chin

The Seahawks are next, and that is for certain.
Big Ben leads the way, with the badass steel curtain.

Look out all younz people….Them Steelers is back…
Just remember, browns fan….. Real men wear Black.

    -- David Zubick

    THE BUS
    He steps on the field,
The Bus is ready to play.
If I were in your shoes,
I'd stay out of the way.

    Jerome's got the ball,
    He's poundin' the ground.
    The Bus won't stop
"Till he gets that first down.

    Stay out of his way
    Unless you wanna get hurt.
    It won't fell too good
    And you're gonna eat dirt.

    Look out all you teams
When the Bus comes to town,
    He's gonna roll over you,
    To get the winning touchdown!!

    -- Jessica Yarris

    Da Stillers

Our local team has a whole lot of soul
They’re just one step away from their goal
    No wheelers and dealers
    They’re the Pittsburgh Steelers
And they’re playing in the Super Bowl

We’re playing the Seahawks from Seattle
Who are in for one hell of a battle
We’ll get that one for the thumb
    Because Hasselbeck’s a bum
We know he’ll be easy to rattle

For the Seahawks it will be a shame
When our defense comes into the game
By the end of the first quarter
    Casey Hampton and Joey Porter
Will make Shaun Alexander come up lame

    Steeler fans will really enjoy
When our defense begins to destroy
If the Seahawks attempt some passes
Our defensive backs will kick their behinds
    Especially Polauma…paluma…you know…Troy

When the defense finishes their show
And the ‘Hawks hold their heads down low
    They will have to punt
    That’s not what they want
Because can they stop Antwan Randle? El No!

When our offense comes onto the field
Seattle’s weaknesses will all be revealed
They’ll try to tackle Fast Willie
He’ll just make them look silly
The Pittsburgh Steelers will never yield

Big Ben will continue to be adored
As he passes the ball to Hines Ward,
    Cedric Wilson and heath Miller
    And several other Stillers
He may even get the MVP award

Jerome Bettis comes home to Detroit
The home town angle he will surely exploit
    Seattle will moan and cuss
When they get run over by the Bus
At scoring touchdowns he is quite adroit

Bill Cowher will stick out his chin
When his Steelers pull out the win
    The ‘Burgh will go looney
When they hand the trophy to Mr. Rooney
And I’m sure he will share it with yinz.

    -- Jim Emerick

    Another one bites the dust

    Another one bites the dust
When the Steelers ride the bus.
And another first down, and another touchdown,
When the Steelers ride the Bus!
Hey! He's gonna get through YOU! The Seahawks bite the dust!

    -- Wendy Matchett

    Bettis (The Bus)

Football is the name, get down and dirty is Bettis's game.
Not only is he the coolest but to me he is the best from the rest.
Get on the bus and take a ride cause you'll be in for a big suprise!
He's big and bad and he may get mad but watch him play and you'll be glad.
Superbowl is around the corner so get your seats and you can holler.
Keep your eye on thrity six cause he has what it takes to do all the tricks.
I'm so glad i live in a town where Jerome Bettis can really get down.
The men of steel will win the superbowl this year with the bus driving along with the Steelers near.

    -Jade Villalobos

    Domination

Whether it be by Roethlisberger's dominating hand
Or through a Porter mischievous blow
The Black and Gold will dominate the land
And deep down this we all know
With Polamalu flying around the field on his heels
And fans waving their terrible towels
We all know how the Seahawks’ offense feels
    Looking over at Cowher's Scowls
The front line is going to act like a wall
The receivers will catch every throw
The refs will try not to mess up a call
It's gonna be one helluva show
With the new Steel Curtain playing their game
And the special teams doing no wrong
It's hard to say whom the media is going to blame
For Seattle's continuous fourth and long
The day will come to a joyous end
For all of us in Steeler's Nation
And there will be no doubt on whom we will send
To interview on every T.V. Station
Seattle thought people were telling a tale
Saying over 30,000 Steeler fans will come
But the expectations did not fail
Nor did the “One for the thumb”

    -S.L. Shepard

All the best teams in the AFC fell one by one. A sixth seeded team beat number 3, number 2, and number 1.

Then there were two teams headed to the big dance. But those pesky little birds won't even stand a chance.

On Feb. 5th Seattle will leave Detroit in frustration. After getting beaten by the Steeler Nation!

    - John Madl

    Pledge of the Steeler Fan
I pledge to wave The Terrible Towel
    of the Pittsburgh Steeler Nation,
    created by Myron
    for fans in the stands,
    one more win, under Bill
which defense and offence beat all.

    - D.C. William

    There is a place
    called Steeler Nation.
    You won't find it
    on any map or globe.
    You can't locate it
    with satellite technology.
    If you want to find
    the Steeler Nation
    you must look inward,
    into your heart.
    That's where the Nation exists.
It is a state of being.

    Throughout the region,
    across the country,
    around the world--
    no matter where you are,
    it is part of you,
as you are a part of it.
    No matter where you go,
    it goes with you.
    The Nation is greater
than the sum of its parts.
    It is a commonality
    that brings together people
    who may be strangers
    in all other ways.

It is a life force so powerful
nothing can stand in its way.
    Its electricity surges through you
and through the others like you.
    It is this sharing
    that is so important
    to the Steeler Nation.
    For no matter the outcome
    of the task before it,
    the Steeler Nation remains one.
    If the task is successful,
    the Nation shares a euphoria--
    a tidal wave of emotion
    second to none.

    If the unforeseeable,
    the unexpected.
    the unthinkable,
    occurs
and the task effort falls short,
    there is sadness.
    Yet there is also
    a shared understanding
    and compassion,
    a knowing that,
    on a particular day,
    the Nation's best
    was not enough.

    After a time
    the force will subside
    in its wild intensity.
    But the fervor will remain
    and recede
    into the soul
    of the Steeler Nation--
    waiting impatiently
    in anticipation
    of the opportunity
    to be called upon again
    to meet the next challenge.

    "The Super Bowl"

Seahawks are grand with Alexander in hand. Hasselback isn't grand with Polamalu in the land. Polamalu with a pick. Roethlisberger with a trick. Now the Steelers, are in the promise land.

    By Shane F. Cornuet

JOY RINGS OUT IN SONGS OF CHEER, CHEERING THE BLACK AND THE GOLD... VOICES LIFTED IN JUBILEE,,, THE AIR IS CHARGED WITH THIS CHANT OF OLD, BUT FRESH FOR THE BIG GAME,,, WE SING IT ONCE MORE.... HERE WE GO STEELERS! LET'S GET ONE FOR THE THUMB!!!!!!

    -Lynda Moore

'Twas the Night Before the Super Bowl

Twas the night before the Super Bowl and all through the towns Not a creature was stirring, cause we were thinking ‘bout touchdowns.

The stores were all quiet and we had our plans made Tonight before falling asleep, Steeler fans will have prayed.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of touchdowns danced in their heads.

Mamma in the kitchen and Dad in his chair Were all excited as they started to prepare.

When on the news they watched with a grin As newscasters predicted just who would win.

Away to their bedroom they start to go They can’t wait till Sunday when it’s time for the show.

The Steelers meet curfew and try to fall asleep Nothing seems to work, not even counting sheep.

When what to everyone’s wondering minds should appear But a “preview” of the Super Bowl that is crystal clear!

With quarterback Ben so lively and quick You could see in a moment that he was very slick.

More rapid than eagles his offensive team came And he called out his plays and we started the game.

Now Parker! Now Antwaan! Now Bettis and Ward On Cedrick! On Kreider! On Duce and Smith!

To the top of the first quarter and to the top of the next Now catch that ball…catch that ball and keep them perplexed.

As in so many games we have watched all year long So we had to endure plays that seemed to go wrong.

And then in a twinkling we heard the ref’s call And suddenly on the field there started a brawl!

A face masked was grabbed and a rough late hit So now we had to find a play where we could outwit.

He was dressed in his colors and wore number 36 And what the fans witnessed then had them all transfixed.

A huddle of Steelers gathered ‘round Ben And all the fans said a prayer that ended with Amen.

Jerome’s eyes how they twinkled, his muscles how large He had them believing that he was taking charge.

His great big smile was gleaming white And the Seahawks all grew very uptight.

His mouthpiece he held tight in his teeth And the fans waved their towels around like a wreath.

He had a plan and he was ready to go Ben dropped back and was ready to throw.

They were tackling and blocking this fine football team And our “preview” revealed a score supreme!

With a surprise play that had Seattle confused We pulled off a touchdown that made them lose.

The Seahawks spoke not a word but went straight to their bench And all of their mouths were seen tightly clenched.

The Steelers stood raising their arms up high We feel they were giving praise to God and to you and I.

Our “preview” of the Super Bowl made us whistle And it soon will really be over as fast as a missle.

But I heard if you sleep well on Super Bowl Eve You’ll have no fears at all and we won’t have to grieve.

    One for the Thumb!

They are the Steelers, they are the number one team
They are the Steelers, striving to fulfill a dream
They're headed north to Detroit to play in the Superbowl
And we know they're gonna win it 'cause the team has soul

They are the Steelers, they're like one big family
They play with passion as everybody can see
When they're out there playing they'll play together as one
And when the Superbowl's over they'll have their "One for the Thumb"!

    -Donna Kramer

It"s ten years that have gone past,
The Black & Gold is in the Super Bowl at last.

Watching the Bus gaining yard after yard,
With Joey Porter pumped & hitting Hasselbeck hard.

Seeing the wind blowing through Polamalu's hair,
Intercepting the ball, Hasselbeck saying "why did I throw it there"

Willie Parker running thinking catch me if you dare,
Roethlisberger throwing to Hines, him catching it in the air.

As for Cowher, no one deserves this more,
Speaking for Steeler fans you are someone we adore.

Thank you Steelers for giving us something to cheer about,
Win or lose the fans support you without a doubt.

    - Tammy Papakie

As Super Bowl XL draws so near
Steeler Nation has nothing to fear
Whether we do it w/ Big Ben
    Yet once again
Or ride the wheels of Fast Willie or even The Bus
W/ Kreider and Miller leading the way
For these 2 they put their trust
Whether it be a run or pass block
W/ Faneca, Hartings, Smith,Simmons or Starks
W/ any of those guys we will be leaving marks
Don't forget our great team of hands that are so fine
Randle El, Cedric Wilson and the one they call Hines
To stop the Hawks w/ our great dee
Should not be to hard for anyone to see
We got some great names there
    Deshea, Kimo Hampton and Ike
Don't forget Porter Smith or McFadden
Or the one w/ the hair that they call Troy
Do not forget Art Rooney and the coach that got us here
W/o him we would have fear and no power
Thanks to the coach ... Thanks Coach Cowher
For anyone not mentioned you played your part
    And even then some
GO STEELERS TO DETROIT AND BEAT SEATTLE
AND GET US THE ONE FOR THE THUMB!!

    - Chuck David

    Bill Cowher’s Night Before Christmas

    Twas the night before Christmas
In a ‘Burgh that I know
    The stadium was empty
And the lights did not glow

    The uniforms hung
    In the lockers with pride
    With the helmets, with emblems
    On only one side

    The players and coaches
Had been gone for a while
    I sent them home early
    With a holiday smile

So I cleared off my desk
    And was ready to leave
    To spend time at home
    On this Christmas eve

    When out by the lockers
    I heard a loud clatter
    I ran from the office
To see what was the matter

    I ran down the hall
Just as fast as can be
    And stopped at the door
    I was trying to see

    I heard some walking
    Some concern this did cause
Then I gasped when I saw,
    It was Santa Claus

He was dressed not in red
But in gold trimmed with black
And I watched as he pulled
All the gifts from his sack

    Some fumbles, some picks,
And some sacks for the “D”
And a ball for Jeff Reed
That flies as straight as can be

    The receivers got touchdowns
A long bomb for Big Ben
    And a defensive back
For the Bus to smash in

    Every player and coach
Got a gift of some kind
But what would he leave me?
Lots of thoughts crossed my mind

    I watched as he carried
    His bag down the hall
    But he started to leave
And he left me nothing at all

So with fire in my eyes
    And spit on my lip
    I yelled ‘cross the room
    “hey man what’s your trip?”

    “I watched as you gave
all those gifts to my crew
    but you’re giving me nothing
    what wrong did I do?”

    He turned and he smiled
And he said just one thing
    “When you get to Detroit
you’ll get your Super bowl Ring!”

Sung to the tune of "Sixteen Tons" by Tennessee Ernie Ford

    You have 22 Strong men
    and what do you get
    A great Football Team
    That isn't done yet.

    (Chorus)
    St. Peter don't call me
    cause I can't Go
    the Steelers are Going
    to the SuperBowl

You have Hines & Randel El
    and Fast Willy too
    But just watch out
the bus will Run over you
    (Chorus)

    You have Foote and Porter
    And Polamalu
    They beat the Bengals
    They corraled the Colts
    The Busted the Broncos
And gave them the Jolts (Chorus)

    We have the best Quarterback
    His name is Big Ben
    and when he fades back
    you know we will win
    (Chorus)

    You have Dan rooney
    and Bill Cowher Too
    He'll stick out his chin
    and they both will beam
    cause they just got back
    with a Superbowl Team
    (Chorus)

    - John Leavor

Let's hear it for the Pittsburgh Steelers
The ones who wear the Black and Gold!
Let's hear it for their coach Bill Cowher
who strives to have their story told.

Let's hear it for the men up front,
    Hartings, Faneca, Smith and Starks.
They do their job to buy Ben time
so he can find his marks.

Let's hear it for the Defensive line,
    Porter, Farrior and Hampton too.
And don't forget that long haired devil
    None other than Polamalu.

When things get tight, as they sometimes do,
Coach calls on Reed to kick one thru.
One thing's for certain, the fans won't get bored
When Big Ben connects with smiling Hines Ward.

Gardocki's punts will get the job done.
And the Defense will hold them on the one.
Again, Big Ben will make that ball sail
right into the arms of Randle El.

The Steelers play with a lot of pride,
And The Bus takes opponents along for the ride.
Ole Fast Willie can pile up yards once more
then Big Ben to Wilson will give them the score.

    So come SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
    In DETROIT CITY
What they do to the Seahawks
    Will sure be a pity.

When the game is over and
    the party has begun.
    The STEELERS will have
    that ONE FOR THE THUMB!!!!!

    - Linda Ganoe

    What Seahawks Means

    SEASON
    ENDS
    AFTER
    HAVING
    A
    WICKED
    KILLING BY
    STEELERS!!!

    - Jennifer Lignoski

Listen Steeler fans and you will hear
Some random facts that we all hold dear.

Amazing Big Ben stands strong and tall,
Reinforced with steel, Ben will not fall.

Troy's won battles both bloody and bold,
Opponents never can gain a hold.

A dependable Bus sets the pace,
Slow and steady often wins the race.

All cities need a Ward against evil,
    Strong magic to prevent upheaval.

    Gold Towels are Terribly sturdy,
They look just fine even when dirty.

If these five facts seem a little trite,
Think again and use Steeler insight.
None of these lines are meant to deceive,
Pittsburghers know that they must believe.

    - Jared Larkin

I wrote a little poem/prayer regarding the prayer team photo that is making the rounds.

    God, we know you're busy
and you have important things to do.
But if you have a minute please,
we lift our Steeler Team to You.

    You know our every desire
and the longing of our hearts
and may You bring to pass the gifts
that come from great head starts!

We lift each player to you
    from our beloved Steeler Team...
From the coaches to the water boys
    and each person in between.

Please bless them in the locker room
as they kneel down to pray.
We're grateful for a humble team
who starts their games this way.

We won't ask you for a favored win
We won't ask you to influence the plays
We just ask Your presence in their hearts
    Today and for always!

For if they have You in their lives
    there's nothing they can't do!
And may all the glory and the honor
    all come back to You!

    - Tammy Tobac

    Dear Lord,

    Please protect the bus,
It is in him we place our trust.

Let Big Ben's arm be strong,
Please don't let the refs be wrong.

    Protect Polamalu's speed,
It is his plays we need.

Then let Porter make many a sack,
    Send home their quarterback.

Oh and don't forget to let Hines score,
    and keep adding 7 more.

Finally, God bless Detroit, the Bus's hometown....
and let those Seahawks know they're going down!

    - Gracie
