Spadafora Pleads Guilty In Shooting CasePOSTED: 1:28 pm EST December 20, 2004 Pittsburgh, PA -- Former lightweight champion Paul Spadafora pleaded guilty Monday in connection with an October 2003 shooting of his girlfriend.Spadafora, who earlier this month tested positive for cocaine and was jailed on violation of his bond, pleaded guilty to a weapons charge and aggravated assault -- both felonies. Prosecutors dropped charges of attempted homicide and reckless endangerment. The weapons charge carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years, while the assault charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years. Sentencing will come at a later date. Spadafora was charged with shooting his girlfriend, Nadine Russo, on October 26, 2003 following an argument. The two have since become engaged. Prior to that, Spadafora was arrested for urinating on a Pittsburgh street while intoxicated and was later convicted of disorderly conduct and public intoxication. The 29-year-old Pittsburgh native last fought this past July 17 and posted a 10-round TKO of Francisco Campos to improve his undefeated record to 38-0-1. He moved up to the junior welterweight division after giving up his IBF lightweight title in June of 2003 following a draw with WBA champion Leonard Dorin in a unification bout one month prior.
