Cavs Place Wagner, Diop On IL

POSTED: 4:14 pm EST November 1, 2004

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced their opening night roster on Monday and guard Dajuan Wagner and center DeSagana Diop were among those placed on the injured list.

Wagner, whose 2005 option was declined by the Cavs last week, is suffering from a right ankle sprain. He averaged 6.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 44 games last season. This year, the third-year pro is again expected to come off the bench.

Diop, a seven-footer, has a finger sprain. Last season, he averaged 2.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 56 games. He is entering his fourth season in the league.

Both players will be required to miss five games as a result of being placed on the IL.

Cleveland opens the season on Wednesday night against the Indiana Pacers at Gund Arena.
