Steelers Take Burress In FirstPSU's Brown, Arrington Taken 1-2 In DraftUPDATED: 5:08 p.m. EDT April 16, 2000
Steeler fans were given their last fix until mini-camp when Plaxico Burress was named the Steelers' No.1 draft pick, eighth overall. Burress, who came out as a junior from Michigan State, gives the Steelers a pair of young bookends, joining last year's No.1 pick, Troy Edwards.
Arrington settled for the second overall pick as the Browns selected Brown in the top spot. The two Penn Staters are only the third college teammates to ever be selected with the first and second picks of the draft.
Three natives of the Pittsburgh area will be drafted with North Hill's Arrington all but guaranteed of being selected in the top three spots. McKeesport's Brandon Short could go late in the first round, though, it's more likely that he'll be an early second-round pick.
Leander Jordan tries to make the jump to the NFL from Division II. A probable second-round selection, Jordan hopes to join former PSAC players John Mobley, Andre Reed and Lee Woodall in the NFL. Other players with local ties will make a splash in New York. Penn State's Brown is the only player that could take the top spot away from Arrington.
