points as the West Virginia Mountaineers defeated the James Madison Dukes,
74-57, at the Convocation Center. D'or Fischer netted 14 points and blocked a school record eight shots. Patrick
Beilein and Tyler Relph each added 10 points for the Mountaineers (1-0). The Dukes (1-1) were led by Dwayne Broyles who tallied 20 points with nine
rebounds, while Chris Cathlin pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds but shot
only 3-of-11 from the floor. West Virginia jumped out to a 23-8 lead midway through the first half and
cruised to a 40-22 advantage at the intermission thanks to a defense that
limited JMU to 27.8 percent shooting from the field and 0-of-6 from behind the
three-point line in the period. James Madison outscored the Mountaineers 35-34 in the second half, but it was
too little too late as West Virginia took the 17-point win. WVU shot 48.1 percent from the field in the contest while the Dukes shot just
31.9 percent. James Madison did win the battle of the boards, 47-38, with 20 of those coming
