Schnyder, Szavay Reach Budapest Quarters

POSTED: 2:17 pm EDT July 9, 2009

(Sports Network) - Patty Schnyder of Switzerland and Hungarian native Agnes Szavay were among the second-round winners Thursday at the GDF Suez Grand Prix tennis tournament.

The top-seeded Schnyder rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Italy's Maria Elena Camerin and will next face fifth-seeded Russian Alisa Kleybanova in Friday's quarterfinals. Kleybanova advanced Thursday with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Kateryna Bondarenko of the Ukraine.

Szavay, the fourth seed this week, needed three sets to dispose of Italy's Tathiana Garbin, 7-6 (7-2), 5-7, 7-5. She'll next play Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky, who rallied for an 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Patricia Mayer of Austria.

Friday's other quarterfinals will pit sixth-seeded Alona Bondarenko of the Ukraine against Israel's Shahar Peer and Croatia's Petra Martic against Romania's Edina Gallovits. All four were second-round winners Wednesday.

The 2009 Budapest champion will collect $37,000.
