Police Say Kazemi Purchased Gun Found At Crime Scene

POSTED: 6:22 pm EDT July 6, 2009

(Sports Network) - Nashville police say the gun found at the scene of the shooting deaths of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair and his girlfriend on Saturday was purchased by the woman two days before the incident.

Police department public affairs manager Don Aaron spoke briefly Monday and said that Sahel Kazemi purchased the gun, a semiautomatic pistol, on Thursday.

"As a result of the investigation, we now know that the gun recovered at the crime scene was purchased by Kazemi from a private individual," Aaron stated.

On Sunday, police ruled McNair's death a homicide but did not classify the death of the 20-year-old Kazemi. Aaron said on Monday that police are still awaiting ballistic results to determine whether Kazemi's single fatal gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

Aaron said Sunday that autopsy results determined McNair had four gunshot wounds, two to the head and two to the chest.

McNair and Kazemi were found dead at a Nashville condominium on Saturday. The weapon was found underneath Kazemi.
