Bondarenko Wins Budapest Opener

(Sports Network) - Sixth-seeded Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko highlighted Monday's opening-round winners at the $220,000 GDF Suez Grand Prix tennis tournament.

Bondarenko came from behind to beat Croat Karolina Sprem 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 on the red clay at Romai Tennis Academy.

In other opening-round play, Italian Maria Elena Camerin overcame Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez Lino 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 and Romanian Edina Gallovits grounded Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova 7-5, 6-2.

This week's top seeds are Swiss Patty Schnyder and defending champion Alize Cornet of France. Cornet bested Slovenian Andreja Klepac in last year's finale here.

The 2009 Budapest champion will collect $37,000.
