Elliot Williams Plans To Transfer To Memphis

POSTED: 8:34 pm EDT June 27, 2009

(Sports Network) - Sophomore guard Elliot Williams has reportedly decided to play for the Memphis Tigers after leaving Duke University following one season because of family medical reasons.

According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Williams wanted to transfer closer to his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee to be near his ailing mother. He is expected to file an appeal with the NCAA regarding the transfer rule, which would require the 6-foot-4 Williams to sit out the 2009-10 season. He had also reportedly been considering Vanderbilt and had spoken to coaches at Kentucky and Tennessee.

Williams averaged 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 34 games last season.
