Texans Sign QB Grossman

POSTED: 4:50 pm EDT June 12, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Houston Texans signed free agent quarterback Rex Grossman on Friday.

Grossman was a first-round pick, 22nd overall, of Chicago in 2003 and spent his entire career with the team before signing with Houston.

In 36 games, he threw for 6,164 yards with 33 touchdowns and 35 interceptions. In 2006, he started all 16 games for Chicago and guided the team to a 13-3 mark and an appearance in the Super Bowl, which the Bears lost to the Colts.

He kept the starting job to begin the 2007 season but lost it to Brian Griese after three games. He did get the starting job back later in the season after Griese went down with an injury but injured his knee later in the season.

He was primarily a backup for Chicago in 2008 and was not in the team's plans for the 2009 season after it acquired Jay Cutler in a trade with the Denver Broncos.
