PITTSBURGH -- Many Steelers fans are searching long and hard for affordable tickets to the Super Bowl.
Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl have already gotten their hands on some tickets, but they're guaranteeing that the tickets didn't come from city money.
Pittsburgh Mayor, County Executive Explain Expenses For Super BowlThe Pittsburgh Steelers are providing team tickets, travel and accommodations to the mayor and county chief executive. However both officials said they will be paying the team back for the value of that hospitality.
Channel 4 Action News' Bob Mayo confirmed that Onorato and his wife are accepting, and will repay the Steelers for Super Bowl tickets, a ride on a Steelers-chartered flight and a hotel room. Onorato will use campaign funds to cover reimbursing the costs.
Ravenstahl is also accepting a Super Bowl ticket, a ride on that chartered flight, and hotel room from the Steelers. He also said that he will be paying the team back with campaign money.
The mayor's bodyguards won't be on the city's dime. Those off-duty police officers will be paid directly by Ravenstahl's campaign for their security work and their expenses.
Onorato is not bringing a bodyguard.
Ravenstahl said that while he's in Tampa he will be talking with many national media organizations to promote Pittsburgh.
"I share the county executive's thoughts when I say that we believe it's important to be there to represent southwestern Pennsylvania and Steeler nation," Ravenstahl said.
The mayor said his two brothers are joining him at the Super Bowl as guests of the team. They will also repay the Steelers for game tickets and hotel accommodations. One of Ravenstahl's brothers will also fly with the mayor on the Steelers' chartered plane.
