Penn State is unbeaten in the hunt for college football's national championship.

But all is not well with Joe Paterno, who needs surgery. The 81-year-old coach has been vague when discussing what doctors told him about his ailing right leg and hip.

"It's not something that can't be fixed, but it's gonna be fixed. When we do it, I'm not sure," Paterno said Thursday on his weekly radio show.

Paterno hurt his leg while attempting an onside kick during a practice two days before Penn State's season-opening game against Coastal Carolina. He has coached the last four games from the press box and uses a golf cart to get around at practices.

On Tuesday, at his weekly news conference, Paterno told reporters that he wanted to wait until after Penn State wraps up its season to have any medical procedures done.
