Pittsburgh, PA -- (Sports Network) - Pascal Dupuis scored with 10.8 seconds remaining in overtime, as the Pittsburgh Penguins edged the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, at Mellon Arena.

Brooks Orpik registered a goal and an assist for the Penguins, while Marc- Andre Fleury made 28 saves to record the win.

"Winning builds confidence," said Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby. "We won the right way. It wasn't a fluke, we worked hard. We earned it and it's a little bit rewarding."

Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne tallied for the Flyers, who have lost three consecutive games to start a season for the first time since the lockout- shortened 1995 campaign. Antero Niittymaki, who stopped all 13 shots he faced in relief of a shaky Martin Biron during Saturday's season-opening loss to the Rangers, made his first start for Philadelphia. The Finn allowed three goals on 28 shots in defeat.

"He gave us a chance to win," Philadelphia coach John Stevens said of Niittymaki. "That's what you want. I thought he did pretty well before they got a goal and then another quick one, then it looked like we got on our heels a little bit. He made a couple big saves to keep it at two and, like I said, he gave us a chance to win the hockey game."

These clubs were meeting for the first time since Pittsburgh eliminated the Flyers in five games in the Eastern Conference finals.

Following a scoreless third period that featured four power plays, two for each squad, Orpik sent a long lead pass to Dupuis, racing down the left wing, and the speedy forward's booming slap shot beat Niittymaki on the glove side.

After an evenly contested first period, during which Niittymaki denied Maxime Talbot on a shorthanded breakaway, the Penguins came out buzzing to begin the second stanza. Philadelphia, though, withstood the initial onslaught and had a two-man advantage for 39 seconds, but failed to score.

Philadelphia's Glen Metropolit was then called for high-sticking and the Penguins went to work on the power play. Off the faceoff, Orpik crept in from the left point and his wrister from the top of the circle sailed past the glove of a screened Niittymaki with 5:48 to play in the second period.

Mike Zigomanis lit the lamp 42 seconds later to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead. Matt Cooke fed a pass from behind the net to Zigomanis, whose one-timer from the bottom of the right circle beat Niittymaki.

However, the Flyers tallied twice in a span of 21 seconds late in the frame to head into the third stanza deadlocked at two. Ossi Vaananen whipped the puck down low to Carter, who curled and ripped a shot off Pittsburgh defenseman Hal Gill's stick and past the right pad of Fleury with 44 seconds remaining.

Shortly after, Daniel Briere trumped Crosby on the draw and dropped the puck to Braydon Coburn at the left point. Coburn then dished to Kimmo Timonen, whose big blast was redirected by Gagne. Philadelphia's first- round pick (22nd overall) in the 1998 draft, Gagne has scored in each of the first three games of the season after a concussion limited him to a career-low 25 games in 2007-08.
