NFL Game Summary - Pittsburgh At BuffaloPOSTED: 11:07 pm EDT August 14, 2008 Toronto, ON -- (Sports Network) - Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards and Pittsburgh signal-caller Ben Roethlisberger both looked sharp in preseason action, as Buffalo held off Pittsburgh, 24-21, in a game played at the Rogers Centre north of the border. Edwards was an efficient 9-of-11 for 104 yards and two touchdowns, the first a seven-yard toss in a crowded space to tight end Robert Royal to open the scoring in the first quarter. His second TD pass, again to Royal, from 13 yards away pushed the edge to 14-0 with 9:43 left in the first half. Roethlisberger threw a first-series interception, but responded to throw a 40- yard touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes in the second quarter for a 14-7 game. Roethlisberger finished 9-of-11 for 142 yards in defeat. Rian Lindell's 43-yard field goal with 9:33 left in the third pushed the edge to 17-7 but Steelers rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall scored from six yards out with 1:51 left in the period. Leodis McKelvin responded with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, making the score 24-14 entering the final quarter. Rookie quarterback Dennis Dixon had a 47-yard touchdown run in the fourth, but couldn't muster a last-minute rally to change the outcome. Marshawn Lynch ran for 25 yards on five carries and Lee Evans caught three passes for 55 yards for Buffalo. Willie Parker couldn't find much room on the ground for the Steelers, carrying the football five times for only 14 yards. Copyright 2008 Courtesy of The Sports Network. | Sports Photos |
