Terry Bradshaw Talks About His Steroid Use In '70sEx-Steelers Quarterback: Doctor Administered Drug For Healing PurposesPOSTED: 10:10 am EDT June 24,
2008 Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw said last week in a radio interview that he used steroids under a doctor's care while he was playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s."We did steroids to get away from the aches and the speed of healing," Bradshaw said on The Dan Patrick Show. "My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injury, and I thought nothing of it... It was to speed up the healing process, that was it. It wasn't to get bigger and stronger and faster."Bradshaw did not specify whether he was talking about corticosteroids or anabolic steroids. He said he's glad the National Football League is doing more to make sure steroid use isn't being swept under the rug."I think our league, the players association, is doing a good job now of testing and trying to make sure players are aware of what can happen," he said. "And quite honestly, if you get caught now, it affects you."Bradshaw also talked about his late teammate, Steve Courson, an admitted user of anabolic steroids who developed health problems later in life and spoke out against the drugs."Steve Courson didn't die of steroid use but he had severe problems with it," Bradshaw said.A podcast of the interview is posted on Patrick's page on SportsIllustrated.com.
