Detroit Radio Station Sabotages WTAE's Penguins Web Poll

The Penguins are just two wins away from bringing the Stanley Cup back to Pittsburgh, but they'll have to beat the Detroit Red Wings Wednesday night to keep their dream alive.

On Tuesday, thePittsburghChannel.com posted a poll asking fans whether they think the Pens still have a shot at the Cup. As of that night, about 900 votes were cast with 96 percent of voters saying they believe the Pens still have a chance at winning the next two games to celebrate their first Stanley Cup championship since the 1991-1992 season.

But as of Wednesday morning, thanks in part to Detroit radio station 97.1 The Ticket, those numbers have changed, and if you're a Pens fan, not for the better.

The station is urging listeners to log on to our Web site and cast votes in favor of the Red Wings. With about 3,600 votes so far, 63 percent now say the Pens do not have a shot at the Cup.

The Red Wings lead the series 3-2, but let's not count out the young team just yet. During Game 5 Monday night in Detroit, Maxime Talbot kept the team in contention with a game-tying goal with about 30 seconds left in the third period.

Then, in triple overtime, Petr Sykora put the puck in net, right after telling NBC reporter Pierre McGuire, who was stationed near the ice, that he was going to do just that.

If the Pens win Wednesday night, that would force the series back to Detroit on Saturday for Game 7.
