DETROIT -- The Stanley Cup and cases of champagne were put in place for the Red Wings' celebration, but Maxime Talbot and Petr Sykora of the Pittsburgh Penguins weren't about to let the corks fly Monday night in Detroit.
Survey: Do Pens Still Have a Shot at the Stanley Cup?
Pittsburgh, down 3-1 in the Stanley Cup series, needed to win to stay alive, and that's just what they did, thanks to Sykora. Sykora scored the game-winning goal in the third overtime, right after he told NBC reporter Pierre McGuire, who was stationed near the ice, that he was going to do just that.

Sykora Calls Own Game-Winning Goal
"And about the shot, just between the periods, something stupid I said, just, 'Guys, I'm just going to get one, so just don't worry about the game. I'm going to get a goal,'" Sykora said after the game."Obviously, we're happy for Sykie," Pens captain Sidney Crosby said. "He's been through a few playoff series over his career, but we were happy to see it go in. He's a goal scorer and he found a spot.""When a guy like that steps out and says, 'I think I got one, guys,' you look at him and hope it is the truth," said Talbot. "And when it happens, you can't believe it. You're like, 'Oh my God, he called for it.'"Sykora said he wasn't trying to be cocky, rather just ease some tension that had been built up throughout the game."I just kind of want to get a little looser," said Sykora. "I didn't feel that I would score but just to get a little looser out there. Make a comment like that, give the guys a little laugh in the locker room, and I'm not complaining that it worked."Sykora would never have had the chance to call the shot if it weren't for Talbot, who tied the game with 35 seconds left in regulation.

Talbot Comes Through Big For PensPens goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who was amazing throughout the Pens' 4-3 victory, stopped 55 of 58 shots in the game, including 13 in the first overtime and 11 more in the next two. Both teams will now head back to Pittsburgh for Game 6 Wednesday night at Mellon Arena, where the Pens have lost only once in the post season."If we can come up with the win, it's going to be a lot of pressure on them," Sykora said. "But you just worry about the game on Wednesday, and hopefully we can get it."
