Steelers Cuts Include Reid, Mundy, Drummond; Batch On IR

Charlie Batch Goes On Injured Reserve

PITTSBURGH -- As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for their Sept. 7 season opener against Houston, the team made its final cuts on Saturday afternoon and announced new commitments on Sunday.

The Steelers signed eight players to the practice squad on Sunday, including:

Linebacker Patrick Bailey
Cornerback Roy Lewis
Safety Grant Mason
Offensive Tackle Jeremy Parquet
Defensive Tackle Scott Paxson
Wide receiver Micah Rucker
Tight end Dezmond Sherrod
Runningback Justin Vincent

Wide receiver Marvin Allen was also designated to the team's practice squad as part of the NFL's international player development program.

The Steelers' roster was reduced to the NFL maximum of 53 by releasing the following players:

Linebacker Mike Humpal (waived/injured list)
Safety Ryan Mundy (waived/injured list)
Wide receiver Eddie Drummond
Wide receiver Willie Reid

Quarterback Charlie Batch, who broke his collarbone in the preseason, was put on the injured/reserve list and will be out for the season. Also on that list is punter Daniel Sepulveda, who hurt the ACL in his non-kicking leg early in training camp.

In addition, the Steelers get a roster exemption for wide receiver Marvin Allen, who will be on the practice squad as part of the NFL's international player development program.
