PFA Charge Against 'Pittsburgh Kid' Spadafora To Be Dropped

Former World Champion Seen With Ex-Girlfriend, Police Say

Paul "The Pittsburgh Kid" Spadafora was arrested Tuesday, after police said the professional boxer was seen with an ex-girlfriend, but a prosecutor said she will drop the charges that Spadafora violated the woman's protection-from-abuse order.

Police said they were called to recover a stolen vehicle that they said was in the possession of Nadine Russo on Tuesday.

Police found Russo in a motel room at the Edinboro Inn, and Spadafora was there, too, according to court documents.

Spadafora posted an unsecured bond of $2,500 and was released from jail.

Assistant District Attorney Erin Connelly said it is hard to prove Russo feared Spadafora, since she drove about 100 miles from the Pittsburgh area to see him, so the charges are being dropped.

Spadafora's promoter, Mike Acri, said the PFA that Spadafora was accused of violating has also been dropped. Several phone calls seeking confirmation of that from the Erie County District Attorney's Office were not returned.

Russo, the mother of Spadafora's child, filed for the PFA in 2007.

"I couldn't make a statement on whether the relationship's good, bad or indifferent, because I don't know all the circumstances," said Acri.

Spadafora, a native of McKees Rocks, now lives in Erie. The PFA prohibits him from having contact with Russo, whom he shot at a McKees Rocks gas station in October 2003.

In December 2004, Spadafora pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in Russo's shooting. He spent seven months in prison and six months in a boot camp.
