The Carolina Panthers selected University of Pittsburgh offensive tackle Jeff Otah in Round 1 of the NFL draft on Saturday.

The 6-foot 6-inch, 234-pound powerhouse, selected 19th overall, played only two years for the Pitt Panthers, playing in 24 games.

But NFL.com has rated Otah at 81.58 percent for blocking consistency, as he delivered 192 knockdowns, including 26 that led to Panthers' touchdowns on the team's 1,523 offensive snaps.

Also drafted from Pitt were guard Mike McGlynn (fourth round, Philadelphia) and cornerback Kennard Cox (seventh round, Buffalo).

Three players were drafted from West Virginia University:

  • Steve Slaton, running back, third round, Houston
  • Owen Schmitt, fullback, fifth round, Seattle
  • Ryan Mundy, safety, sixth round, Steelers
Mundy is a product of Woodland Hills High School, where he also played wide receiver and set the school record for career catches with 54.

Drafted from Penn State University were:

  • Dan Connor, linebacker, third round, Carolina
  • Justin King, cornerback, fourth round, St. Louis

The 5-foot 11-inch, 185-pound King was a star running back at Gateway before heading to PSU. There, he played both sides of the ball during his freshman year in 2005. By 2006, he settled in as the team's starting cornerback.

Penn State quarterback Anthony Morelli, from Penn Hills High School, did not get drafted. He has agreed to a free-agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals.
