The New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts, the last two Super Bowl champions, will be featured on the prime-time schedule for the NFL's 2008 Kickoff Weekend.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Giants will open the 2008 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 4, against the Washington Redskins. The traditional season-opening contest will start at 7 p.m. (ET) on NBC, an earlier kickoff time than normal to avoid a conflict with the conclusion of the Republican National Convention.

Sunday's prime time game will pit the Colts against the Chicago Bears in a rematch of Super Bowl XLI. The Colts will host the 8:15 p.m. (ET) game on NBC in their new home -- Lucas Oil Stadium.

The opening Monday night will again feature a doubleheader on ESPN, as Minnesota visits Green Bay and Oakland hosts Denver. The opening game of the night will feature the Packers in their first game without future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre, who announced his retirement earlier this offseason.

The remainder of the 2008 schedule will be announced in April.
