San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders said the NFL has decided to play the Texans-Chargers game at Qualcomm Stadium as scheduled Sunday afternoon.

The game's date and location was in question after the wildfires in Southern California affected the air quality in San Diego, and forced the Chargers' field, Qualcomm Stadium, to be turned into a evacuation center for thousands that fled the fires.

The Chargers practiced in Phoenix during the fires.

The stadium was scheduled to close as an evacuation center Friday afternoon.

Sanders released the following statement Friday.

"The city will be able to provide sufficient public safety personnel to manage a professional football game without impeding ongoing wildfire recovery efforts," Sanders said.
