Steely McBeam?

Um, yep.

Months of fan feedback produced more than 70,000 suggestions, and now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have unveiled that name as the winning entry in a contest to dub the team's new mascot.

Steely is a 21st-century version of the old steelworker logo that the Steelers used in the 1950s and 1960s.

He replaces the last mascot, Stevie Steeler, who disappeared in the early 1990s.

Many fans will also remember an unofficial mascot, The Terrible Fan, walking around Three Rivers Stadium back in the day.

Team president Art Rooney II said the new mascot is geared toward younger fans and will be a fixture at home games and club-sponsored events and charitable functions.

Some fans submitted "Angry Art" as a possible mascot name, Rooney said, but that was nixed before it had any chance to gain momentum.
