Yankees Release Mike MyersPOSTED: 12:41 pm EDT August 6, 2007 Toronto, ON -- (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees have released relief pitcher Mike Myers.Myers had a solid record of 3-0 with a 2.66 earned run average in 55 games this season, but the veteran lefty struggled in the most important part of his job as left-handed batters were hitting .312 against him. "The inability to get left-handers out consistently was a major factor in the decision," said Yankees manager Joe Torre before Monday's game against Toronto. In his final appearance as a Yankee on Sunday against Kansas City, Myers gave up a run on two hits in one inning of work. The 38-year-old Myers was in his second season with the Yankees. He has also pitched for Detroit, Florida, Milwaukee, Colorado, Arizona, Boston and Seattle since breaking into the majors in 1995, and has an overall record of 24-24 with a 4.11 ERA and 14 saves in 866 appearances -- all in relief. Veteran right-hander Jim Brower replaced Myers on the roster. Copyright 2007 Courtesy of The Sports Network. | Sports Photos |
